Mayea wins Championship Flight, competes again April 25

Charles Mayea of Patterson won the Championship Flight of the Louisiana Senior Amateur Tour golf tournament April 6 at the Lake Charles Country Club. Mayea carded a one over par 73, one stroke ahead of second-place finisher Tony Vicknair of Lafayette. This Lake Charles tour stop is one of 11 scheduled tournaments across Louisiana during 2015. The next tour event is scheduled for Saturday at Oak Wing Country Club in Alexandria. Eric Simmons, tour director for Louisiana, reported that the Louisiana Amateur Tour is one of 17 state tours competing under the national Senior Amateur Tour out of Charlotte, North Carolina. Players compete in one of four flights based on handicap. The Louisiana Senior Tour started in 2008 and is open to any amateur golfer residing in Louisiana who is over 50 years old. Louisiana Senior Amateur Tour is a seasonal membership, which allows members to compete in the 11 scheduled tournaments in Louisiana. There is a Tour Championship in Hilton Head, South Carolina, this year for the top players of the various state tours.
