Morgan City All-Stars finish 2-3 this weekend

The Morgan City AA (7- and 8-year-old) All-Stars finished 3-3 at the Louisiana AA Dixie Youth Baseball Tournament, falling in the second round of the consolation bracket.
While Morgan City — which opened the tournament with a win against Buckeye Thursday — defeated Oakdale Americans 6-2 in Friday’s first game, the squad fell to Shreveport in its final pool game, 13-7, Friday afternoon to finish second in its pool behind Shreveport.
Morgan City was placed in the consolation bracket after falling to Ruston, 20-10, Friday.
In the consolation bracket, action Saturday, Morgan City defeated Ville Platte, 14-4, before falling to Pineville, 8-7.
Morgan City coach Keith Daigle said while it was disappointing not to reach their “ultimate goal” at the state tournament, he said his team played hard, followed his instructions and exhibited mental toughness.
“But most importantly they had fun,” Daigle said. “It was a good experience for everyone.”
Shreveport won the state tournament, knocking off Ruston, to advance to the world series in Laurel, Mississippi.
Meanwhile the Gonzales Americans won the consolation title.
As for Morgan City’s games, against Oakdale, Jamyre Bias led Morgan City with a 2-for-2 performance with two triples and two RBIs. Other top offensive contributors included Ja’Kavior Kemp, 1-for-2 with a home run; Jade Oliney and Bryan Cordero, each 2-for-2; Lucas Pickens, 1-for-2 with a triple; Chaz' Pickens, 1-for-2 with an RBI; and Landyn Ramagos, 1-for-2.
Against Shreveport, Chaz Pickens led Morgan City with a 3-for-3 performance with an RBI, while Bias was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Other top offensive contributors included Cordero, 2-for-3 with an RBI; Kemp and Kade Gagliano, each 1-for-2; and Tate Fontenot and Lucas Pickens, each 1-for-3.
Against Ruston, Oliney led Morgan City with a 2-for-2 performance with a triple and an RBI. Other top offensive contributors included Chas Pickens, 2-for-2 with RBI; Jackman Lind, 1-for-2 with two RBIs; Bias, 1-for-2, a triple and RBI; Kemp, 1-for-2, an RBI; Cordero and Maddox Justilian, each 1-for-2; and Lucas Pickens, 1-for-3.
Against Ville Platte, Lucas Pickens led Morgan City with a 2-for-3 performance with a home run and three RBIs. Other top offensive contributors included Ramagos, 2-for-3 with a triple; Fontenot, 2-for-3, an RBI; Justilian 2-for-2; Kemp 2-for-3; Chaz' Pickens and Cordero, each 1-for-3 with two RBIs; Lind, 1-for-2, an RBI; and Oliney, 1-for-3.
Against Pineville, Bryan Cordero led Morgan City with a 1-for-2 performance with a home run and three RBIs. Other top offensive contributors included Ramagos and Chaz’ Pickens, each 2-for-3 with an RBI; Gagliano, 2-for-2; Lucas Pickens and Oliney, each 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Conner Daigle, 1-for-2.
