Morgan City, St. Mary Central win at district tournament

Morgan City and St. Mary Central all-star teams won their respective games in District 3 Double AA action Thursday at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson, while Patterson dropped a heartbreaker.
Morgan City run-ruled Thibodaux Nationals 15-5, while St. Mary Central defeated Franklin 10-5.
Patterson fell to Thibodaux Americans, 10-9, after Thibodaux rallied in the final inning.
In Morgan City’s win, Morgan City never trailed, scoring seven runs in the top of the first.
While Thibodaux scored a run each in the second and third innings, Morgan City came back with four more runs in the fourth for an 11-2 lead.
Thibodaux pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Morgan City put the game away with four runs in the top of the sixth.
Jade Oliney and Carter Whipple led Morgan City with three runs apiece. Bodie Hoffpauir and Shamus LaCoste each scored two runs, while Gregory Hamer, Roderick Bennett, Thomas Mancuso, Benjamin Case and Ja’Kavior Kemp each scored a run.
On Wednesday, Morgan City defeated Franklin 13-3 in five innings.
Morgan City took a 7-0 lead in the top of the second, and while Franklin scored a run in the bottom of the frame, Morgan City came back with another run in the third and four more in the fourth for a 12-1 lead.
Franklin scored two in the fourth before Morgan City ended the game in the top of the fifth with a run.
Mancuso, Whipple, LaCoste, Lucas Pickens and Case each scored two runs for Morgan City, while Oliney, Hoffpauir and Brandon Cordero each scored a run.
Morgan City, 2-0 in district action, will return to action today when it faces St. Mary Central in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
On Saturday, Morgan City will face Thibodaux Americans at 1 p.m. and Morgan City and Patterson square off at 3 p.m.
In St. Mary Central’s victory Thursday, the squad used a five-run frame in the bottom of the fifth inning to break away for the win.
Entering the bottom of the fifth, St. Mary Central and Franklin were tied at 5.
While Franklin started the scoring with two runs in the top of the first, St. Mary Central responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
Franklin retook the lead with a run in the top of the third and extended it to 5-2 in the top of the fourth with two more runs.
St. Mary Central tied the score at five with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
Drake Rock led St. Mary Central with a 3-for-3 performance with a double and an RBI, while Zac Kitchen was 3-for-3 with three runs and Grant White, 3-for-3 with a run.
Other top offensive contributors included Kaleb Leonard, 2-for-3, a triple and a run; Henry Thorguson, 2-for-3, an RBI and a run; Jason Matthews, 2-for-3, a run; Thomas Nini, 1-for-3, two RBIs and a run; Eli Lodrigue, 1-for-2, a run; and Maddox Brinlee, 1-for-2
St. Mary Central, 1-1 in district play, will return to action today when it plays Morgan City.
On Saturday, St. Mary Central will play Patterson at 11 a.m. and Thibodaux Nationals at 1 p.m.
In Patterson’s loss, the local squad led the entire game until Thibodaux rallied for the win in its final at bat.
Trailing 9-6, Thibodaux pushed across four runs in the final frame.
Offensively, Brylon Jennings, Dylan Richard, Holden LeBlanc and Evan Picou each finished 3-for-3 for Patterson.
Other top offensive contributors included Ethyn Cauley, 2-for-3, three RBIs; Billy Jack Caldwell, 2-for-3, two RBIs; and Braden Mouton and Parker Jennings, each 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Patterson, 1-1 in district play, will return to action today when it faces Franklin in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
On Saturday, Patterson will play St. Mary Central before meeting Morgan City later in the day.
