Norwood advances to 400 semis

Morgan City High alum Vernon Norwood made the cut of 16 semifinalists at the USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday in Eugene, Oregon.
Norwood, running in the fourth of five heats, won his heat in 45.49. Adidas’ Calvin Smith finished second in 45.71.
Norwood’s time was the seventh fastest of the day.
LaShawn Merrit ran the fastest time preliminary time at 44.95.
From the two semifinal heats, the top four runners in each field will advance to the finals.
Semifinal heats in the 400-meter run will commence at 9:53 p.m. today. It will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network.
The finals of the men’s 400-meter run will be held at 4:42 p.m. Saturday and broadcast live on NBC.
