Norwood to run in prelims at national meet today in Oregon

Vernon Norwood will begin his quest to make Team USA and compete in the world championships in August when he steps on the track today to compete in Eugene, Oregon, at the USA Track and Field Championships.
Norwood is one of 34 competitors in the event.
Just two weeks ago at the same facility he will be running this week, Norwood won the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field national title in the 400-meter run, while he also anchored the Tigers to a 4x400-meter relay national title. He was a member of the Tigers’ third-place 4x100-meter relay, too.
Norwood will run today in the fourth of five heats, which is set for a 6:45 p.m. start.
The semifinals in the event will be run Friday at 9:53 p.m., while the finals will be staged Saturday at 4:42 p.m. No TV coverage is available for today’s action, but coverage of Friday’s action will begin at 9 p.m. and continue until 11 p.m. on NBC Sports Network. Saturday’s action will be aired on Universal Sports from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and then on NBC from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The top three finishers in each event that have met the qualifying standard will compete for Team USA in Beijing at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics Aug. 22-30.
Norwood’s personal best time of 44.44, which he recorded this spring, is ranked No. 5 worldwide.
USA Track and Field will have live streaming video at http://usatf.tv for certain events. Live streaming will be held Thursday from noon to 11 p.m., Friday from 11:15 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 12:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Norwood is one of 21 current or former LSU track and field athletes who will be participating in this weekend’s event.
