Norwood struggles at London event

Ex-LSU track and field standout and Morgan City High alum Vernon Norwood had a rough outing at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games in London, England, Saturday.
Norwood finished last in the 400-meter run with a time of 45.92.
The nine-man race featured competitors from seven different countries. Wayde Van Niekerk of the Republic of South Africa won the event in 44.63.
David Verburg of the United States, who won the 400-meter dash at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, last month, finished second Saturday in 45.01.
Norwood, who swept the 400-meter indoor and outdoor titles in his final year at LSU, and Verburg will be among the U.S. contingent that will compete in late August at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Beijing, China, in the 400-meter run. Norwood and Verburg also will compete in the 4x400-meter relay for Team USA.
