SMC 12s facing Ville Platte for Majors South championship
The St. Mary Central 12-year-old All-Stars beat Sabine 4-0 Tuesday night to advance to play Ville Platte in the championship of the Majors South Regional at Wally Pontiff Jr. Playground in Metairie.
St. Mary Central was scheduled to face Ville Platte at 10 a.m. today, and must beat Ville Platte twice to win the championship, Coach Mike Delatte said.
St. Mary Central’s Zeph Delatte went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer. Kyle Valdez, Hunter Landry, and Zeph Hoffpauir all went 1-for-2. Seth Canty was 1-for-3. Valdez and Canty each had an RBI.
Canty was the starting pitcher for St. Mary Central, allowing one hit and striking out three batters in three innings. Dayton Clark pitched two innings, giving up three hits while striking out three. Delatte pitched one inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.
St. Mary Central pitchers have only given up one run in the tournament so far, and that lone run was to Ville Platte, Delatte said. “It’s going to be a showdown,” he said.
On Monday, St. Mary Central run-ruled Minden 10-0 in four innings, and then lost 1-0 to Ville Platte.
In the game against Minden, Landry went 2-for-3; Canty, 1-for-3 with an RBI; Hoffpauir, 1-for-1 with two RBIs; Eric Guillot, 2-for-3 with three RBIs; Shane Berger, 1-for-3 with two RBIs; Clark, 1-for-2; and Evan Thomas, 1-for-1 with an RBI.
Delatte pitched three innings, did not allow a run, and struck out three batters. Clark pitched one inning and struck out two batters.
In the loss against Ville Platte, Canty went 1-for-2 while Berger went 1-for-3. Hoffpauir pitched a complete game, throwing six innings. Hoffpauir gave up five hits and recorded six strikeouts.
