St. Mary Central 10s go 1-1 in regional

The St. Mary Central 10-year-old All-Stars went 1-1 Monday at the AAA Minor South Regional at Wally Pontiff Jr. Playground in Metairie.
The team was undefeated heading into Monday’s games. St. Mary Central lost the first game against West Monroe North 11-7, and then beat Minden 8-0 in the second game.
In the first game, Tanner Simmons pitched 3.2 innings giving up 11 hits, six walks, 10 runs with seven of them earned runs. Simmons also struck out two batters. Simmons got the loss. Carter Williams pitched 1.1 innings giving up two hits, one walk, and one run. Williams struck out one batter.
Leading hitters for St. Mary Central were Hayden Landry, who went 1-for-2 with a double. Tanner Simmons went 1-for-4 with a double. Carter Williams went 3-for-3 with three singles. Luke Zerangue was 1-for-3 with a single, and Trever Berryhill was 1-for-1 with a single.
In the second game against Minden, St. Mary Central pitcher Clay Menard got the win pitching three innings without surrendering a run. Menard gave up three hits, did not walk anyone, and struck out one batter. Ross Thomas pitched two innings giving up one hit, no runs, and walking one.
Clay Menard went 3-for-3 at the plate with three singles. Ross Thomas went 2-for-4 with two singles. Jackson Thorguson was 2-for-2 with two singles. Carter Williams was 1-for-2 with a single. Luke Zerangue was 3-for-4 with three singles. Trever Berryhill was 1-for-1 with a single.
St. Mary Central plays the winner of the Ville Platte-West Monroe game at 6 p.m. today.
