St. Mary Central 12s finish runner-up in tournament

The St. Mary Central 12-year-old All-Stars finished runner-up Wednesday in the Majors South Regional at Wally Pontiff Jr. Playground in Metairie after losing to Ville Platte 8-5 in the championship game.
St. Mary Central’s Kyle Valdez went 2-for-3 with two doubles; Hunter Landry and Zeph Hoffpauir were both 1-for-3; Zeph DeLatte, 1-for-3 with two RBIs; Dayton Clark, 1-for-2 with three RBIs; and Evan Thomas, 1-for-1.
Hoffpauir pitched three innings, allowing seven hits and striking out two. DeLatte pitched two innings, giving up two hits and striking out five batters.
“We jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning,” St. Mary Central Coach Mike DeLatte said. The team played well but had a couple of key errors, DeLatte said.
Ville Platte brought in its ace pitcher in the fourth inning. He kept St. Mary Central hitters off balance not allowing a run, DeLatte said.
St. Mary Central gave up two runs in the second inning, five runs in the third, and one run in the fourth.
On Tuesday, St. Mary Central beat Sabine 4-0. On Monday, St. Mary Central run-ruled Minden 10-0 in four innings, and then lost 1-0 to Ville Platte.
