St. Mary Central battles rain, Thibodaux Americans to win district opener

THIBODAUX — St. Mary Central’s 7- and 8-year-old All-Stars were the lone squad to win on the first-day of the district tournament Thursday.
St. Mary Central had to battle rain for its 14-6 win against Thibodaux Americans.
The game, the first of the day, began at 5:30 p.m. but featured a lengthy rain delay.
No individual statistics were available today.
In the games that followed, Franklin defeated Morgan City 9-4, followed by Thibodaux Nationals topping Patterson 14-6.
East St. Mary action today continues with Morgan City facing the Thibodaux Nationals at 6:45, followed by St. Mary Central facing Patterson at 8 p.m.
Saturday, area action includes Morgan City facing Patterson at 9:30 p.m. while later, St. Mary Central will meet Franklin at noon.
At 1:15 p.m., Thibodaux Americans will meet Morgan City, while St. Mary Central will play the Thibodaux Nationals at 2:30 p.m. and Franklin will play Patterson at 3:45 p.m.
Sunday’s area action includes the Thibodaux Americans meeting Patterson at 11 a.m., followed by St. Mary Central and Morgan City squaring off at 12:15 p.m.
The top two teams from the district tournament will advance to the state tournament in Pineville.
