Teams still sought for Galatea golf tournament

Staff Report
The Krewe of Galatea will be sponsoring its sixth annual golf tournament and still has openings for a limited number of teams.
The event is scheduled for Sept. 19 at The Atchafalaya at Idlewild near Patterson. Tournament chairman is Bill Marin.
The format will be an 18-hole scramble comprised of 30, three-man teams. Each team will be paired with another team during tournament play. There will be only one tee time, at 1 p.m.
Team sponsors can either fill out the form in The Daily Review and mail it to the address listed on the form or they can call Marin at 985-395-4653.
“Mid-September should give us a chance of having an early fall day for golf, and I know the ladies of Galatea will be at the course to join in on this fun outing,” Marin said in a release.
The field of teams will be flighted into three flights (if full field of 30 teams is entered) consisting of championship, first and second flights. The top two teams from each flight will be awarded prizes as well as the long-drive and closest-to-the-hole winners.
“The most popular type of scramble seems to be the format where two teams must play together during competition,” Marin said in the news release. “Also, tournaments that don’t fill up the course with teams are also popular because the course is not crowded and play is completed in a reasonable amount of time.
“The krewe is using this tournament as a fundraiser, but most importantly, we want the whole event format to be an enjoyable outing not only for the golfers who compete but also for the krewe members who host the tournament day,” Marin said.
“Also, this year, we have a major corporate sponsor, Ocean Marine Contractors and the krewe is very appreciative of this support by Tommy and Donna Cheramie. Other special recognition goes out to the sponsors of our food/beverage tents. They are, the Dohmanns (AJ/Randy/Joey), Cannata’s (Steve Domangue), Kyle Machine, Adams & Johnson CPA and Bob Opperman, Keith Langley and Charlie Solar,” Marin said.
