Staff Report

Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association Member Lester Waguespack was been inducted into the Louisiana State Horseshoe Pitchers Association’s Hall of Fame in September at an induction ceremony in Shreveport.
Waguespack, better known as “Wag,” is the seventh BHPA member inducted into this prestigious group.
“I belonged to the Knights of Columbus and one of our programs was participation, participation in sports and other activities, and I just got to (liking) horseshoes,” Waguespack said.
He said he still pitches today in Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association league play.
He began playing horseshoes in 1972. Waguespack won his first state Knights of Columbus Tournament in 1981 and claimed that same state title in the elders division in 2004-06 and 2010.
Some of Waguespack’s accomplishments on the courts include State Singles Elders champion in 2003, 2006, 2009 and 2010; Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association City Champion in Singles in 2004 and Doubles in 2002; and Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association Player of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2006.
He holds six Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association city records, the most significant, an 82.5 percent game (33 ringers for 40 shoes).
Waguespack was a member and served as treasurer of the Atchafalaya Horseshoe Pitchers Association, a predecessor to the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association. He served as the first treasurer of the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association for the first 10 years of its existence.
He said he has made lots of friends through horseshoe pitching.
