Zephyrs beat Dodgers 9-3 in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Zephyrs bats were alive and well Monday night in a 9-3 win in Oklahoma City. The Z’s had dropped five consecutive games and had fallen eight and a half games back of first place.
The Z’s sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring four runs. Matt Juengel drilled a two-run single. In the second inning, Xavier Scruggs slugged his team-leading 15th home run, a three-run shot, to give the visitors a 7-0 lead.
Chris Narveson got the unexpected start on the mound. Scheduled starter Jarred Cosart was promoted to the Miami Marlins earlier in the day and Narveson worked 51/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits in the win.
Tomas Telis pounded out four hits and added an RBI.
Dodger starter and former Southern Jaguar Jose DeLeon struggled. He allowed seven runs on eight hits in 11/3 innings, his shortest start of the season. DeLeon had entered the game having won four of his last five starts.
Heavy rains pounded the ballpark in the eighth inning and the game went to a delay in the ninth. It was declared an official game after waiting 34 minutes.
The Dodgers took three of four in the series. New Orleans improved to 47-54 on the season.
