2-vehicle crash on U.S. 90 claims the life of a Plaquemine man

A 33-year-old Plaquemine man, Kendrick Johnson, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 90 in Lafourche Parish at about 7 p.m. Monday, a Louisiana State Police Troop C news release stated.
A 1999 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Jervier Maxwell, 46, of Houma, was traveling east on U.S. 90 in the right lane, at mile post 206, in Raceland when a 2012 Suzuki GSX1300R motorcycle was traveling east on U.S. 90 in the left lane just behind the Silverado, police stated. The motorcycle was being driven by Johnson.
As the Silverado approached an emergency vehicle turn around section in the U.S. 90 median, it made a left turn from the right lane of U.S. 90, police stated. The motorcycle in the left lane of U.S. 90 attempted to stop, but struck the rear of the Silverado, police stated.
After the impact, Johnson was ejected from his motorcycle and later pronounced dead on the scene by aLafourche Coroner’s Office representative, police stated. Johnson was wearing a proper DOT helmet at the time of the crash.
Maxwell, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured in the crash, police stated.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Johnson, police stated Maxwell submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation.
Emergency turn around sections in the road should only be utilized by proper emergency personnel, the news release stated.
