A 27-year-old Berwick man was arrested after St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives found items used to make methamphetamine in Morgan City, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Craig M. Free, 27, of the 1900 block of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 10:24 p.m. Thursday for operation of a clandestine lab, on a warrant for possession of Schedule III drug (Suboxone), drug paraphernalia, failure to use a turn signal, a warrant for failure to appear for failure to pay child support, and a warrant for violation of a protective order.
Narcotics detectives conducted an investigation into illegal drug activity at a location in the 7200 block of La. 182 in Morgan City, Hebert said. Upon receiving consent to search the building, detectives located precursor items consistent with the making of methamphetamine. Free was jailed with no bail set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 40 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Julian Aucoin, 31, of the 300 block of Sterling Road in Houma, was arrested at 11:55 a.m. Thursday on a warrant from Terrebonne Parish for failure to appear on the charge of failure to pay child support. Aucoin turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City on the warrant. He was jailed with no bail set.
—Samuel Gary, 23, of the 600 block of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:48 p.m. Thursday for disturbing the peace and remaining where forbidden. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a business on La. 182 in Amelia. The deputy made contact with Gary who had been asked to leave the property previously that day for causing a disturbance. Gary continuously yelled at deputies during the investigation, Hebert said. Gary was jailed with bail set at $750.
—Mikel J. Ashley, 43, of the 100 block of Calumet Cut Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 5:32 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear for theft of utility service, a warrant for failure to appear for theft of goods and remaining where forbidden, a warrant for failure to appear for criminal neglect of family, and a warrant from St. Martin Parish for failure to appear for theft more than $1,500.
Ashley was jailed from Morgan City Police Department to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Jeffery A. McCracken, 48, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 10:11 p.m. Thursday for appearing intoxicated in public and resisting an officer.
Detectives patrolling high crime areas in Morgan City observed a suspicious person in an area which has been subject to narcotics complaints, Crouch said. Officers approached and identified themselves to investigate. McCracken, upon seeing the officers, fled on his bicycle, officers made several attempts to detain McCracken, but he refused to stop and continued to flee, Crouch said. He fell from his bicycle during the pursuit and attempted to flee, Crouch said. As officers attempted to subdue McCracken, he continued to resist and was restrained. McCracken, who appeared highly intoxicated, was jailed.
—Kelton J. Smith, 17, of Murial Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:50 p.m. Thursday for use of tobacco in a jail facility.
Smith, who was incarcerated in the Morgan City Jail, was found to be using tobacco products while incarcerated which is prohibited by a city ordinance, Crouch said.
—Richard W. Bates, 59, of Kaplan, was arrested at 2:05 a.m. today for entry on premises after being forbid.
Bates was located sleeping inside a La. 182 construction site. Officers had previously encountered Bates at that location and had warned him against entering the site. He was jailed.
—Gary L. Draper, 42, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:22 p.m. Thursday for appearing intoxicated in public. Draper was located at a La. 182 business and jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Micah Troy Hatch, 21, of the 200 block of Hemlock Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 7:15 p.m. for simple criminal damage to property and leaving the scene of an accident. Hatch was released on $1,500 bail.
—Craig French, 44, of the 100 block of Church Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:54 a.m. today for simple battery involving domestic abuse. French was jailed with no bail set at this time.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
