Arraignment of Destrehan teacher delayed
HAHNVILLE (AP) — The arraignment of a former Destrehan High School teacher at the center of sex allegations involving a 16-year-old student has been pushed back to next month.
Shelley Dufresne, 32, was set to be arraigned Thursday, but her attorney, Deanne Williams, officially enrolled in the case only Wednesday.
The arraignment is now scheduled for Nov. 25.
Dufresne faces criminal proceedings in both St. Charles and Jefferson parishes.

A day later, Dufresne was arrested again, along with a colleague, 24-year-old Rachel Respess, for allegedly having a three-way sexual encounter with the student in Respess’ Kenner apartment after a football game.

Former parish president cannot serve on Iberia Parish port board
LAFAYETTE (AP) — An opinion from the state Attorney General’s Office says former Iberia Parish President Will Langlinais cannot serve on the Iberia Parish Port Commission because of the 2007 malfeasance conviction.
New Iberia Mayor Hilda Curry requested the opinion in June in reference to Langlinais’ request to be appointed by the city to one of the seats it fills on the Port Commission.
The Attorney General’s Office responded that Langlinais’ conviction bars him from holding any public office, elected or appointed, unless he receives a pardon from the governor or until 15 years after the completion of his sentence.
Langlinais has not received a gubernatorial pardon.
He was sentenced in 2007 to six months of house arrest for the malfeasance conviction.

IberiaBank earnings rise
in third-quarter
LAFAYETTE (AP) — Lafayette-based IberiaBank Corp. said its third-quarter earnings climbed to $29.7 million, or 89 cents per diluted share, compared to $23.2 million, or 78 cents per share, during the same period in 2013.
The holding company for IberiaBank said Wednesday the results included non-operating costs of 11 cents per share. Without those costs, IberiaBank would have generated a profit of $1 per share.
IberiaBank had projected operating earnings per share to end 2014 in the range of $3.65 to $3.70 per share. In a statement IberiaBank President and Chief Executive Officer Daryl G. Byrd said he expects the bank will finish the year “on the upper end” of the guidance range.

Lawsuit filed by former LSU tennis coach dismissed
BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge federal judge has dismissed a racial discrimination lawsuit that former longtime LSU women’s tennis coach Tony Minnis filed against the university after his 2012 firing.
Minnis’ attorney, Jill Craft, said Wednesday that Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Jackson’s ruling will be appealed to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Minnis, who is black, joined LSU in 1992 and was fired in 2012 after compiling an overall record of 285-234 and a Southeastern Conference mark of 86-144. He led the Lady Tigers to the NCAA Tournament 15 times.
Minnis alleged in his suit that he was subjected to “unwelcome race-based harassment and discrimination” throughout his employment at LSU.
Jackson said Minnis presented no direct evidence of discrimination.

Lafayette man indicted in death
of intruder
LAFAYETTE (AP) — A Lafayette Parish grand jury has indicted a 52-year-old man who in August told police that he was across the street from his home when he saw an intruder and shot twice through a window into his home.
Marcus Johnson, of Lafayette, was indicted Wednesday on a charge of manslaughter in the Aug. 24 shooting death of 46-year-old Ramsey Demouchet, also of Lafayette.
Johnson told police he shot twice more at Demouchet as the man tried to get away. Demouchet was pronounced dead in the backyard of the home.

Man on lawn mower booked with 3rd-offense DWI
BOYCE (AP) — Authorities say a 67-year-old Boyce man eluded a Rapides Parish sheriff’s deputy by driving his lawnmower down a trail off La. 121, but later was arrested on several charges.
A deputy spotted Ralph Rufus Carroll driving his red riding lawnmower down the middle of the highway Tuesday morning. The deputy tried to stop Carroll, but he drove into some thick brush.
Officials say the deputy was able to follow Carroll to his home.
Carroll was arrested and booked with operating an unsafe vehicle, having no driver’s license on his person and third-offense DWI.
Deputies say Carroll had been given a warning about a week ago for driving his lawn mower on the roadway.

2 tickets win Lotto jackpot Wednesday
BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana Lottery officials say two tickets won the $325,000 jackpot in Wednesday’s Louisiana Lotto drawing. They were purchased in Baton Rouge and Houma. Lottery officials say the winners will receive $162,500 each.
There were no jackpot winners for the multistate Powerball jackpot or the Easy 5 drawing.
The multistate Powerball jackpot goes to an estimated $125 million for Saturday’s drawing.
Louisiana Lotto will have a top prize of $250,000 for Saturday.
Saturday’s Easy 5 drawing will have an estimated jackpot of $80,000.
Winning numbers drawn Wednesday were:

Wildlife agents chase fisherman
HOUMA (AP) — State wildlife officials say a Houma fisherman was arrested after a boat chase along early Monday along Bayou DeCade in Terrebonne Parish.
Authorities said 32-year-old Charlie Use was booked with aggravated flight from an officer, careless operation of a vessel, possession of more than 10 redfish, taking possession of undersized fish, intentional concealment of fish and no basic or saltwater license and other counts.
Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents say they contacted Use in Bayou DeCade around 6 a.m. Monday after noticing his 18-foot boat didn’t have navigation lights.
They say he dumped redfish into the bayou and sped off. Agents say Use was arrested after a one-mile chase.

Teen booked in New Iberia burglaries
NEW IBERIA (AP) — Authorities in Iberia Parish say a 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a series of burglaries in New Iberia.
Sheriff Louis Ackal said the teen in suspected in five burglaries and was arrested Tuesday.
Ackal says deputies were called to a report of a break-in underway at a home on Sis Street. He says the suspect was arrested at the scene.
Ackal says investigators believe he is linked to other area burglaries.
The teen was booked into a juvenile detention center on two counts of aggravated burglary and three counts of simple burglary.
Ackal says more arrests are possible.
