Man accused of stealing crawfish from traps

CROWLEY(AP) — Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents have arrested a 39-year-old Crowley man who is accused of stealing crawfish from traps in an Acadia Parish pond.
Sheriff Wayne Melancon said Jason Paul Mire faces up to 10 years in prison at hard labor and a fine up to $3,000.
Melancon said state wildlife agents saw Mire in a crawfish pond that does not belong to him. The arrest, aided by sheriff’s deputies, occurred at the site of the alleged thefts on Crowley Eunice Highway near Mire’s home.
He said his office has received numerous complaints of theft from crawfish farmers parish-wide.
