St. Mary Parish School Board to receive annual audit

The St. Mary Parish School Board meets Thursday to receive its annual audit as well as to receive a policy manual governing school activity funds.
The meeting agenda indicates the principles and policy manual will be submitted for review. The need to create one was discovered after a former secretary at Berwick Elementary School was found guilty of the theft of nearly $59,000 from the school.
Also on the agenda is the appointment of Tara F. Fabre as assistant principal of Patterson Junior High School. The effective date of her appointment will be Jan. 6, 2014.
Prior to her appointment as assistant principal, Fabre served as a mathematics teacher at the school. She has more than 15 years of previous teaching experience at the middle school level. There were seven applicants for the position, Superintendent Donald Aguillard said.
To be discussed in executive session are four lawsuits involving the school system:
—School Board versus Dune Energy regarding use of Section 16 lands.
—Leger versus School Board, concerning the referee attacked at a West St. Mary High School football game.
—Potential litigation by the School Board in action to protect and recover lost Minimum Foundation Program funds.
—A potential lawsuit by the School Board regarding a study of all Section 16 lands.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. but will be preceded by a 4:30 p.m. meeting of the District III (Morgan City area) Maintenance Committee to receive bids on the Morgan City High School library project.
Both meetings will be held at the Central Office Complex in Centerville and are open to the public.
