U.S. 90 frontage roads complete

NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) — Construction of a three-mile section of frontage roads along U.S. Highway 90 in Iberia Parish is complete.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced completion Friday of a $5.8 million project to build front roads along a 2.97-mile section of the future Interstate 49 South, from Darnall Road to La. Highway 85.
Work on the frontage road began in August 2012. Gilchrist Construction was awarded the contract.
Construction of the frontage roads is a preliminary step in the construction of I-49 between Lafayette and New Orleans.
DOTD says about $210 million has been dedicated to I-49 South.
The I-49 South corridor includes about 160 miles of roadway. Of that, about 100 miles have been completed or are under construction.
