Training exercise prepares first responders for the worst

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office coordinated a multi-agency emergency response training exercise Thursday at M.D. Shannon Elementary in Morgan City. The purpose of the exercise was to better ensure a coordinated, timely and effective response to a critical incident should such an event occur in the community. Pictured, first responders carry Sheriff’s Office Detective Beau Martin, who played the role of a shooting victim during an active shooter response training scenario. Other agencies represented included the Morgan City Police Department, Morgan City Fire Department, St. Mary 911, St. Mary Fire District 11, Patterson Volunteer Fire Department, Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Department, Centerville Volunteer Fire Department, Baldwin Volunteer Fire Department, Franklin Police Department and Acadian Ambulance.
