Walmart to open here Aug. 19
The new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Morgan City will open Aug. 19, a little over a year after construction began on the store that will include a grocery and pharmacy.
Leroy Thompson, on-site superintendent for Journeyman Construction in Austin, Texas, which is constructing the new 41,000-square-foot Walmart Neighborhood Market on La. 70 in Morgan City, said the store is scheduled to have a grand opening at 8 a.m. Aug. 19. The store will be located across La. 70 from Teche Regional Medical Center.
Thompson originally said the Walmart was supposed to open Jan. 1, but, in May, he said workers had to redo the floors in the building, he said.
Construction began on the store in July 2014. At the time, Morgan City Planning and Zoning Director Anthony Governale described the Walmart Neighborhood Market “as mainly just a scaled down Walmart.”
Thompson said it will have a grocery store with a drive-thru pharmacy.
Workers are in the process of stocking the shelves on the inside, doing the landscaping on the outside and wrapping up the finishing touches on the store, Thompson said.
