Coast Guard celebrates 226 years with family event

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard celebrated the Coast Guard’s 226th anniversary at the Coast Guard Day 2016 Celebration Thursday. The event was held at the Bayou Vista Community Center and was a get together for families of Coast Guard members, Marine Safety Unit Morgan City Commanding Officer Capt. Blake Welborn said. Coast Guard members stationed in Morgan City, Houma and Lockport were in attendance. Awards were also presented to Coast Guard personnel during the celebration for their heroic actions. Welborn thanked area government and businesses for their help in putting on the event.
