Brown named Southland Conference Player of the Week

Staff Report

New Orleans women’s basketball freshman guard Randi Brown was named the Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Brown helped vault the Privateers to wins against Nicholls and Abilene Christian last week.
Brown posted 27 points in each contest while shooting an efficient 54 percent from the field (20-for-37) and making eight three-pointers.
On Saturday, Brown started fast and contributed on both ends of the floor to help the Privateers coast to a 71-50 win against Abilene Christian and snap the Wildcats’ five-game winning streak. Brown scored 17 points in the first half to give the Privateers a 10-point lead into the break.
New Orleans kept the pressure up, forcing 31 turnovers, and Brown individually had seven steals.
In the month of February, Brown raised her season scoring average from 7.6 points per game to 11.6. Brown scored 106 points in the last four contests and scored in double figures in seven straight games.
