Tulane men make College Basketball Invitational

This is an exciting reward and opportunity for this hard- working, resilient group of young players.

For the second straight season, the Tulane men’s basketball team has received a postseason berth after accepting a bid to play in the 2014 College Basketball Invitational, it was announced by the Gazelle Group Sunday night.
The Green Wave, who reached the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament last season, will host Princeton from the Ivy League Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the 16-team CBI.
This season, under fourth-year head coach Ed Conroy, the Green Wave posted a 17-16 record and posted the first .500 or better conference record since the 2006-07 season with an 8-8 finish. Tulane placed seventh in the program’s 19th and final season in Conference USA and reached the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament.
“This is an exciting reward and opportunity for this hard- working, resilient group of young players,” Conroy said in a news release. “There are about 200 Division I men’s basketball teams that do not have the opportunity to keep playing, which is why we are excited and also appreciative of the Gazelle Group and the support of our administration.”
The CBI is a postseason tournament comprised of a 16-team field and hosted at on-campus arenas throughout the country. The CBI is a single-elimination tournament until the Championship Series. The Championship Series is a best-of-three series.
“This tournament has a history of teams that have used it as a springboard to future success like VCU, Creighton, and Pitt,” Conroy said. “Our program has now earned back-to-back postseason appearances, and we are pleased that this young group has continued to build the foundation of our program.”
This year marks the seventh annual CBI. Past champions include Santa Clara in 2013, Pittsburgh in 2012, Oregon in 2011, VCU in 2010, Oregon State in 2009 and Tulsa in 2008.
Tickets now are available by calling 504-861-WAVE. Prices for the first round of the CBI are $10 for chairback reserved, $5 for end court and youth. All current season ticket holders have until 10 a.m. Wednesday to purchase their regular season seats before they are released to the general public.
