A 58-year-old Morgan City man was charged Thursday after he struck a correctional officer while in the Morgan City Jail, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Primos Ross, 58, of Morgan City, was arrested at 7:20 p.m. Thursday for simple battery of a correctional officer.
Ross was in the Morgan City Jail on another matter, Banks said. Ross was in the process of being moved to another cell when he became combative and struck one of the officers, Banks said. Ross was then restrained and moved to a holding cell and he was additionally charged.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Tessa Pilgrim, 35, of Morgan City, was arrested at 12:43 p.m. Thursday for possession of tobacco in a correctional facility.
While in custody on another matter at the Morgan City Police Department jail, Pilgrim was found to be in possession of tobacco products which is forbidden. Upon recovery of the evidence, Pilgrim was additionally charged.
—Melvin Sylvester, 53, of Morgan City, was arrested at 9:29 p.m. Thursday on warrants from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for three counts of criminal neglect of family.
While on patrol officers located Sylvester walking in the area of First Street in Morgan City. Officers verified with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office that Sylvester was wanted. Sylvester was jailed and is awaiting transfer.
—Jody Ray Cubbege, 37, of Morgan City, was arrested at 2:46 a.m. today for expired driver’s license, failure to signal 100 feet prior to an intersection, on a warrant for expired driver’s license, a warrant for failure to appear for no child restraint, and on a hold for St. Mary Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear for revocation hearing for driving while intoxicated.
While on patrol in the area of Fifth Street at Brashear Avenue, Morgan City Police observed a vehicle that failed to signal 100 feet prior to an intersection. Morgan City police conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, Cubbege, who was jailed.
—Tyler Brewer, 21, of Patterson, was arrested at 2:09 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for probation violation.
Brewer was located in the City Court building at which time he was placed under arrest on the outstanding warrant for probation violation. Brewer was jailed.
—Danielle Jones, 28, of Berwick, was arrested at 9:06 p.m. Thursday for two tail lights required and driving under suspension.
While on patrol in the area of Sixth Street and Brashear Avenue, a Morgan City police officer observed a vehicle traveling south bound on Sixth Street with only one tail light. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, Jones. Jones was jailed and released on $447 bail.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 35 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Candice N. Ashley, 24, of the 100 block of Andras Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:49 a.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of cancelled license plate, no insurance and failure to secure registration. Ashley was transported from the Assumption Parish detention center to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville on the warrant. Bail is set at $1,500.
—James P. Voisin, 29, of the 400 block of Kyle Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:47 a.m. Thursday on warrants for probation violation and failure to appear on the charges of DWI, careless operation of a motor vehicle, driving under suspension and no insurance. Voisin was transported from the Assumption Parish detention center to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville on the warrants. No bail is set.
—A juvenile male, 15, of Patterson, was arrested at 3:27 p.m. Thursday for simple criminal damage to property. A deputy responded to a complaint of property damaged at Patterson High School. The deputy learned from witnesses that the juvenile male keyed a teacher’s vehicle. The deputy released the juvenile to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Andrew Goree, 19, of the 100 block of Domino Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 3:02 a.m. Thursday for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy was told by store security that Goree was seen placing items into a shopping bag inside the store. Goree then attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. The deputy released Goree on a summons to appear in court Aug. 22.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Jonathan Ashley, 25, of La. 182 in Franklin, was arrested at 4:52 p.m. Thursday for possession of marijuana second offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor and abuse of toxic vapors. Ashley is waiting for bail to be set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
