A 36-year-old Bayou Vista man, who was arrested Thursday for driving while intoxicated, is accused of bringing marijuana into the Morgan City Jail, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Roy W. Kenwood, 36, of Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:15 p.m. Thursday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, taking contraband to/from a penal institution and possession of marijuana.
Officers were dispatched to a La. 182 business in regards to a tractor-trailer truck in the parking lot in front of a business. They were advised that the driver was revving the engine of the truck. Officers located the truck and identified the driver as Kenwood. Kenwood exhibited signs of impairment but refused the standardized field sobriety test. Kenwood was placed under arrest.
After being transported to the Morgan City Police Department, Kenwood was given an opportunity to submit a sample for the Intoxilyzer 5000 test, which he also refused. He was escorted to the booking area and upon removing his personal property, he was observed attempting to discard a cellophane bag containing suspected marijuana, which he had concealed in his wallet, Banks said. The item was recovered and Kenwood was additionally charged.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 40 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
Two 18-year-year-olds were arrested Thursday after they were found joy riding in two pickup trucks on private property in Patterson causing damage to the property, according to the sheriff.
—Brice Benedietto, 18, of the 700 block of La. 182 East in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:27 p.m. Thursday for criminal trespass and simple criminal damage to property.
—Aaron Lecompte, 18, of the 100 block of E and L Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:27 p.m. Thursday for criminal trespass and simple criminal damage to property.
A deputy responded to a complaint of trespassers on a farm in the Patterson area. The deputy spoke with the complainant who had stopped two people as they were leaving the property in two vehicles. The deputy determined that the two mud-covered pickup trucks had been joy riding on the property causing damage to the land, Hebert said. Benedietto and Lecompte, were jailed and released on $1,500 bail each.
—Heath Thompson, 35, of the 100 block of Myrtle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:18 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of Schedule I drugs second offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, abuse of toxic vapors, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, and careless operation of a motor vehicle. A deputy located Thompson at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin on the warrant. Thompson was jailed and released on recognizance bail.
—Amanda Bourg, 31, of the 400 block of Charlotte Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 1:02 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of disturbing the peace fighting. Bourg turned herself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Centerville and was released on $3,000 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
