A Houma couple was jailed Wednesday for stealing a flat screen TV from the Walmart in Bayou Vista after being located by Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives who were investigating a similar crime, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Roy C. Hebert, 49, of the 200 block of A Cliffwood Drive in Houma, was arrested at 1:19 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for felony theft.
—Melanie D. Nowlin, 42, of the 200 block of A Cliffwood Drive in Houma, was arrested at 1:19 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for felony theft.
On June 6, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of a theft from the Walmart store in Bayou Vista. Two suspects, a male and female, were seen on video surveillance taking a large flat screen TV from a display area, loading the television into a shopping cart, and leaving the store. In the parking lot, the two suspects then loaded the TV into a truck and drove away from the area.
The detective working the case learned that neighboring agencies were investigating similar crimes at other stores that may have been connected to the theft in Bayou Vista. Pictures of the suspects were released to the public via social media and regional news outlets, the sheriff said.
Upon release of the pictures, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives received multiple tips from the community regarding the identity of the suspects. The detective positively identified the suspects as Hebert and Nowlin and issued warrants for their arrest, the sheriff said.
The information was shared with Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives who were investigating a similar crime. On Tuesday, Hebert and Nowlin were arrested by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office on warrant charges of theft for that jurisdiction. They were subsequently charged on the warrants from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. No bail is set. Hebert and Nowlin remain incarcerated at the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office jail.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 44 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Charles Berger, 24, of the 1200 block of Clements Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:59 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for simple burglary. Detectives investigating a residential burglary that occurred in March issued a warrant for the arrest of Berger for breaking through the window of a home on Delmar Avenue in Bayou Vista.
Berger and Caleb Gros both entered the victim’s home and then fled the residence when the homeowner returned. About $150 in cash was missing from the residence following the incident, Hebert said.
Detectives obtained and carried out search warrants for Gros’ residence on Sun Road and Berger’s residence on Clements Lane. During both searches, detectives located additional evidence linking Gros and Berger to the burglary, Hebert said. Gros was arrested April 4 for simple burglary. Berger was not present at the time of the search of his residence. On April 9, Berger was arrested by the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office on drug offenses from that jurisdiction. Berger was booked on the warrant from St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office on the burglary charge. No bail is set. Berger remains incarcerated at the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office jail.
—Aaron Polk, 34, of the 300 block of Neptune Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for hit and run driving and careless operation of a motor vehicle. A deputy located Polk at a business in Amelia on the warrant.
The warrant stems from an investigation into a hit and run that occurred in Bayou Vista. The complainant provided the investigating deputy with information on the incident and pieces of the vehicle from the site of the crash. The deputy subsequently identified Polk as the driver of the vehicle that struck the victim’s parked truck and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Polk was later released on a summons to appear in court Sept. 3.
—Brennan Tabor, 26, of the 1600 block of Chatsworth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:39 a.m. today for criminal damage to property and resisting arrest. A deputy responded to a complaint of damaged property at a business on La. 182 in Bayou Vista.
The deputy observed a vehicle with a broken window. According to several statements from witnesses, Tabor punched the window of the vehicle causing it to break.
During the deputy’s investigation, a Louisiana State Police trooper stopped a vehicle matching the description of Tabor’s truck at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and La. 182 in Morgan City. The driver was identified as Tabor. Deputies then went to that location to continue the investigation.
During Tabor’s arrest, he attempted to fight with deputies, Hebert said. Tabor was jailed and released on $1,500 bail
—Antoinette Uze, 31, of the 2100 block of Becnel Street in Franklin, was arrested at 6:03 p.m. Wednesday for possession of marijuana second offense and possession of Schedule II (Adderall) with intent to distribute.
—Caroll Trahan Jr., 55, of the 15100 block of La. 182 West in Franklin, was arrested at 7:58 pm for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of Schedule III (Lortab).
—Rory Landry, 32, of the 15100 block of La. 182 West in Franklin, was arrested at 7:58 p.m. Wednesday for distribution of Schedule II (Adderall).
—Brent J. Bridges, 29, of the 100 block of Rose Road in Verdunville, was arrested at 7:58 p.m. Wednesday for distribution of Schedule II (Adderall), possession of Schedule II (Adderall) with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, resisting an officer by flight and obstruction of justice.
Narcotics detectives conducting an investigation into illegal drug activity at a residence in Franklin observed the driver of a vehicle in that area commit multiple traffic violations. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Uze.
Detectives located a marijuana cigarette and Adderall pills. Detectives then continued the investigation at the residence. Upon arrival at a residence in the 15100 block of La. 182 West in Franklin, Bridges saw detectives and fled on foot, the sheriff said. Detectives pursued Bridges, and during the chase, detectives observed Bridges throwing Adderall pills and bags of meth into the bushes, Hebert said. Bridges was apprehended and found to be in possession of several more Adderall pills and a syringe, Hebert said.
Detectives made contact with Landry and Trahan at the residence and received consent to search the location. Detectives located marijuana, Lortab pills, and several items of drug paraphernalia commonly used in smoking marijuana. As the investigation progressed, detectives learned that Bridges gave Landry Adderall pills to sell to Uze. All four were jailed. Trahan was released on $8,500 bail. Landry’s bail is set at $25,000. No bail is set for Uze or Bridges.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—George Favors III, 46, of the 1600 block of Cherry Street in Patterson, was arrested at 6:46 p.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace by fighting. Favors was released on $323 bail.
—Michael LaSalle, 41, of the 1700 block of Guyther Street in Patterson, was arrested at 6:46 p.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace by fighting. LaSalle was released on $323 bail.
—Dylan Readenour, 20, of the 100 block of Medical Lane in Grand Isle, was arrested at 4:35 a.m. today for possession of a Schedule III drug. Readenour was jailed with no bail set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
