A 23-year-old Patterson man was arrested Tuesday for the aggravated rape of a 12-year-old girl stemming from a Nov. 14 incident, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Bryson J. Verdin, 23, of the 200 block of Kathleen Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:01 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for aggravated rape and theft more than $5,000. On Nov. 14, deputies responded to a report from a local hospital of a possible rape of a juvenile, Hebert said.
During the investigation, deputies determined that Verdin raped a 12-year-old girl at a residence in the Patterson area and then took a vehicle without the permission of the owner, Hebert said. A deputy transported Verdin from the Iberia Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville on the warrant. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints in the parish.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Jerald Francois, 22, of Everett Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of battery of a juvenile.
Francois was already in the Morgan City Jail on an unrelated matter and rebooked on the warrant.
—Oscar Torres, 30, of St. Lucy Street in Patterson, was arrested at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday for driving under suspension and careless operation with a crash.
Police were dispatched to the area of La. 70 and U.S. 90 in regard to a vehicle accident. Police discovered that Torres struck another vehicle from behind. Torres was jailed.
—Christina Pitre, 37, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 5:38 p.m. Tuesday for theft by shoplifting and possession of Schedule III hydrocodone
Morgan City police were dispatched to a retail store in regards to shoplifting. Officers spoke to an off-duty police officer who was working a detail. The off-duty officer observed Pitre placing items into her purse. Pitre was confronted, and she admitted to the officer that she did have items in her purse, Crouch said. Items recovered totaled $61.17 in value. Pitre was jailed. Pitre was jailed.
—Willie Clark, 30, of Wattigny Street in Jeanerette, was arrested at 2:03 a.m. today for stop sign violation, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.
—Kalab Wood, 19, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday for failure to appear to pay fine for no driver’s license.
On Tuesday, police traveled to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center and took custody of Wood. He was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
