A 32-year-old Houma man was arrested Friday on a warrant stemming from an Aug. 2 incident at Lake End Park where he is accused of throwing large rocks at officers attempting to help him after he had threatened suicide, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Earl Neal Jr., 32, of Savanna Road in Houma, was arrested at 1:22 p.m. Friday on a warrant for disturbing the peace and a warrant for two counts of aggravated assault on an officer.
Neal turned himself in to the Morgan City Police Department where he was arrested on outstanding warrants for an incident that took place in Morgan City on Aug. 2. In that incident, officers responded to a complaint of a disturbance at Lake End Park in Morgan City.
After officers arrived, they encountered Neal, who had entered the water and began to swim away, and was threatening suicide, the chief said. Officers intervened and attempted to reach Neal by boat, but he retrieved large rocks from the bottom and threw them at the officers who were attempting to aid him, Banks said.
Neal then used the rocks in an attempt to strike himself, Banks said. The officers were able to retrieve Neal and took him to a medical facility for psychiatric evaluation. He was jailed and released after posting $1,500 cash bail.
Banks reported the following arrests:
—Cory D. Sims, 36, of St. Charles Street in Lake Charles, was arrested at 2:15 a.m. Saturday for possession of Schedule I synthetic marijuana, improper lane usage, operating a vehicle while intoxicated second offense, no vehicle registration, expired driver’s license and window tint violation.
An officer observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner near the intersection of Sandra and Redwood streets. The officer located open containers of alcoholic beverage and suspected synthetic marijuana inside the vehicle, Banks said. The driver, Sims, submitted to a field sobriety test, which he did poorly on, Banks said. Sims refused the Intoxilyzer 5000 test and was jailed.
—Priscilla M. Lovell, 37, of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:27 a.m. Saturday for entry/remaining where forbidden, disturbing the peace intoxicated and resisting an officer.
Officers responded to a complaint of a female entering a Seventh Street property after being forbidden. Officers reported that the woman was knocking on the windows and doors attempting to enter the residence, Banks said.
Upon seeing officers, Lovell fled from an officer after the officer identified himself and ordered her to stop, Banks said. Officers eventually located Lovell hiding in shrubbery and she was jailed.
—Cory Chapman, 49, of Verdun Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 12:58 a.m. today for attempted theft (value $15.98), possession of drug paraphernalia sixth offense, resisting an officer and obstruction of justice.
—Kurt Thomas Stephens, 61, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:15 a.m. today for reckless operation of a moving vehicle. Officers were dispatched to an La. 182 convenience store in regards to a shoplifter who was attempting to flee the store. Officers observed a vehicle speeding from the scene and followed it.
The vehicle was detained near Florence and Sixth streets and the driver identified as Stephens. Upon investigation, officers learned that the passenger, Chapman, had taken flashlights from the store and fled, Banks said.
Upon detaining Chapman, officers observed him to be in possession of a glass pipe commonly used to consume illegal narcotics, Banks said. Chapman began to resist the officers and made attempts to destroy the evidence. He was jailed.
—Jody Cubbege, 38, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:43 p.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace by fighting, resisting an officer, on a warrant for an expired driver’s license, child restraint and contempt of court.
—Jessica L. Pearce, 25, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:43 p.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace by fighting and on a warrant for probation violation.
Officers were dispatched to the corner of McDermott and Roderick streets in regards to a disturbance. Officers learned from witnesses that Pearce and Cubbege had been involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical, Banks said. Both were jailed.
—Darrell J. Morrison, 32, of Bourg, was arrested at 9:01 p.m. Sunday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, speeding 60 mph in a 30 mph zone and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
An officer observed a speeding vehicle being driven erratically in the area of La. 182, Banks said. Morrison was jailed and submitted to an Intoxilyzer 5000 test that indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .134 grams-percent, the chief said.
—Lucas J. Lang, 26, of Timothy Drive in Pierre Part, was arrested at 7:36 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear for speeding, driving under suspension, no insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Edwin R. Posadas-Vega, 43, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:57 p.m. Saturday for hit and run driving, careless operation with an accident, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and no driver’s license.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Ditch Avenue and Seventh Street regarding two suspicious vehicles. Officers discovered a truck being towed by another in the area and stopped to investigate.
The vehicle being removed from the scene was observed to have damage to the front of the vehicle. Officers located a utility pole and fire hydrant located on Railroad Avenue, which had damage. Evidence led officers to determine that the vehicle being removed from the scene had caused the damage, Banks said. The driver of the vehicle, Posadas-Vega, was jailed where he submitted to an Intoxilyzer 5000 test that indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .175 grams-percent.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 125 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Jasmine Young, 22, of the 1400 block of Joseph Street in Amelia, was arrested at 10:58 a.m. Friday for aggravated battery. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area responded to a report of a fight on Joseph Street.
During the investigation, the deputy learned that Young sprayed another woman with pepper spray during an argument in the street. Young was jailed with no bail set.
—Gregory Oubre, 17, of the 100 block of Shady Grove in Patterson, was arrested at 11:26 a.m. Friday for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile, and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone).
—A juvenile male, 15, of Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:26 a.m. Friday for possession of tobacco under the age of 18.
A school resource officer investigating a complaint at Patterson High School of a student smoking marijuana at the school called in a detective with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division to assist after locating several marijuana cigarettes in a vehicle, Hebert said.
A tobacco cigarette was also located in the vehicle. During the investigation, the detective learned that the marijuana belonged to Oubre, the driver of the vehicle, and that the cigarette belonged to the juvenile, the sheriff said. Oubre was jailed and released on $6,500 bail. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Christian Marcel, 35, of the 200 block of Kathleen Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:04 p.m. Friday on a warrant for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstruction of justice.
Narcotics detectives were travelling on U.S. 90 in Amelia when they observed Marcel in the passenger seat of a vehicle. Detectives knew Marcel had an active warrant for his arrest and stopped the vehicle. While the vehicle was pulling to the side of the road, Marcel was seen emptying a bottle containing suspected illegal drugs out of the vehicle’s window, Hebert said.
Detectives made contact with Marcel. Detectives located the bottle that contained a small amount of methamphetamine. Marcel was also found to be in possession of several items of drug paraphernalia. Marcel was transported to the parish jail. No bail is set.
The warrant charges stem from a traffic stop that took place on U.S. 90 Thursday in the Amelia area for improper lane usage. Detectives made contact with the driver, identified as Marcel. During the traffic stop, detectives gathered information indicating the possible presence of illegal drugs inside the vehicle. After speaking with Marcel regarding the traffic offense, he was released from the traffic stop and left the location.
The vehicle was held pending further investigation. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and located a bag of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of about $3,000 and several items of drug paraphernalia including plastic baggies and a digital scale, Hebert said.
—Alaysha Stevens, 17, of the 100 block of Hendricks Street in Patterson, was arrested on Friday at 9:05 p.m. for possession of Schedule I synthetic cannabinoids and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
Narcotics detectives received information from Patterson police officers that two juvenile males, ages 9 and 12, sought medical attention at Teche Regional Medical Center after smoking synthetic marijuana.
Patterson police learned that Stevens gave the juveniles the illegal drug. Continuing the Patterson Police Department investigation, sheriff’s deputies and narcotics detectives located Stevens at her residence.
While speaking with Stevens, she admitted to detectives that she gave the juveniles the drug to smoke, Hebert said. Detectives located synthetic marijuana on Stevens and in her residence. Stevens was jailed and released on $3,000 bail.
—Kellie Pyle, 31, of the 100 block of Willow Bend Road in Patterson, was arrested at 8:29 a.m. Saturday on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of ignoring a stop sign and no child restraint, for failure to appear on the charge of driving while intoxicated, for simple battery, simple criminal damage to property and theft.
The warrant for simple battery, simple criminal damage to property and theft stems from an investigation into a report of a battery that occurred at a residence in the Patterson area Feb. 3.
The responding deputy learned that Pyle and a female victim were involved in an argument when Pyle struck the female in the face and pushed her to the ground, Hebert said. Also during the incident, Pyle damaged a light and took prescription pills from the victim before leaving the residence, the sheriff said. No bail is set.
—Dezin Young, 42, of the 700 block of Chetta Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:09 p.m. Saturday for driving while intoxicated third offense, general speed law, failure to signal while passing, driving with a suspended license and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family.
—Tammy Triggs, 44, of the 1100 block of James Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:29 p.m. Saturday for open container of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.
A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on La. 182. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Young, and a passenger, identified as Triggs.
During the traffic stop, the deputy saw an open beer can partially under the passenger seat of the vehicle. Young registered .138 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration. Young was jailed with no bail set. Triggs was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 14.
—Denia Bonilla, 32, of the 600 block of 79 Pines Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:12 p.m. Saturday for simple battery. A deputy responded to a report of a fight at a residence in Amelia. During the investigation, the deputy determined that Bonilla struck a woman in the face. The victim was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center for treatment. The deputy located Bonilla at her residence. She was jailed and released on $500 bail.
—Mikayla Rock, 18, of the 100 block of Shady Grove in Patterson, was arrested at 10:53 p.m. Saturday for driver must be licensed by allowing an unlicensed person to drive and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
—Damarcus McNeal, 17, of the 300 block of Cardinal Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:53 p.m. Saturday for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
—Ryan Boudreaux, 19, of the 200 block of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:53 p.m. Saturday for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
—Ryan Bowman, 19, of the 400 block of Lagonda Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:53 p.m. Saturday for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
—Callen Richard, 17, of the 1900 block of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:53 p.m. Saturday for no driver’s license, contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and license plate light required.
—Jayd Adams, 17, of the 700 block of Kelly Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 10:53 p.m. Saturday for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—A juvenile male, 16, of Patterson, was arrested at 10:53 p.m. Saturday for two counts of possession of Schedule II Focalin with intent to distribute, possession of a Legend Drug (Desyrel) with intent to distribute and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law in a drug free zone.
A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area observed a vehicle travelling on Southeast Boulevard without a license plate light and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Richard, and six other occupants in the vehicle. The deputy learned that Rock owned the vehicle and allowed Richard to operate it without a driver’s license, Hebert said.
During the traffic stop, the deputy located multiple pills in the juvenile’s possession and a glass pipe containing what appeared to be marijuana residue in Adams’ possession. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings. The other six people were jailed. Boudreaux and Bowman were released on $1,000 bail. Rock was released on $1,250 bail. McNeal’s bail is set at $1,000. Richard was released on $1,500 bail. Adams was released on $2,500 bail.
—Jessica Everage, 33, of the 4300 block of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:43 a.m. Sunday on a Lafourche Parish warrant for failure to appear. A deputy made contact with Everage while responding to a complaint in Amelia.
While speaking with Everage, the deputy learned of the active warrant for her arrest. Everage was jailed with no bail set.
—Nicholas Levison, 24, of the 1800 block of Main Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:13 a.m. Sunday for possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, possession of Schedule I marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
Levison was also cited for speeding and failure to signal a lane change. A deputy driving on U.S. 90 near Garden City observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and changing lanes without signaling. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Levison.
During the traffic stop, Levison informed the deputy of a handgun inside the vehicle. While speaking with Levison, the deputy smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located an open bottle of liquor, a small bag of marijuana and cigars, Hebert said. Levison was jailed with no bail set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—James A. Scott, 37, of the 100 block of Patrick Place in Houma, was arrested at 3:41 a.m. Saturday in Houma, for speeding 78 mph in a 55 mph zone, no insurance in vehicle, and possession of marijuana first offense. Scott was jailed on $2,691 bail.
—Victor Portillo-Nolasco, 40, of the 7400 block of La. 182 East in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:33 p.m. Saturday for careless operation, no driver’s license, no proof of insurance, and driving while intoxicated first offense. No bail is set at this time.
—Gerald Bland, 32, of the 1400 block of Hickory Street in Patterson, was arrested at 6:07 p.m. Sunday for simple battery involving domestic abuse. Bland was jailed with no bail set at this time.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
