A 17-year-old Morgan City High School student was jailed Wednesday after he was accused of having struck a female student several times in the face, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—James Naverre, 17, of Apple Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:39 a.m. Wednesday for simple battery.
Officers responded to a complaint of a person striking another student at Morgan City High School. Officers arrived and were provided video evidence indicating that a student, Naverre, had struck a female student several times in the face, Banks said. He was detained by school staff and then jail.
Banks reported the following arrests:
—Areana Candanedo, 24, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:36 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for probation violation. Candanedo was located at the Morgan City Police Department and jailed.
—John J. Jones, 32, of Bush Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday for violation of protective orders.
Officers received a complaint that Jones was in violation of a protective order. Officers located Jones in the area. According to witnesses, Jones had gone to a Cypress Street address after being prohibited by the order, Banks said. Jones was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 50 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Jerry Hendricks, 54, of the 300 block of Lincoln Street in Houma, was arrested at 7:59 a.m. Wednesday on warrant charges of theft by fraud and theft more than $1,000. Hendricks turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville. The warrant stems from an August investigation into the theft of equipment from an industrial business located in Amelia. The property, including two scissor lifts, was recovered and returned, Hebert said. Hendricks was jailed and released on $10,000 bail.
—Trent Duhon, 19, of the 100 block of U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:11 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for simple assault, simple criminal damage to property and disturbing the peace. A deputy responding to a complaint of a disturbance on Ricohoc Drive made contact with Duhon and learned of the warrant for his arrest.
The warrant stems from an August investigation into a disturbance that also occurred on Ricohoc Drive. The deputy determined that Duhon was involved in an argument with a woman when he punched a vehicle causing damage to it, Hebert said. Duhon also made threats towards others at the location, the sheriff said. Duhon was jailed and released on $1,250 bail.
—Roger Fitch, 60, of the 4700 block of Grand Caillou Road in Houma, was arrested at 9:17 a.m. Wednesday for failure to signal 100 feet prior to an intersection and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of speeding. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to properly signal a turn onto Lake Palourde Road. While speaking with the driver, identified as Fitch, the deputy learned of the active warrant for his arrest. Fitch was jailed and released on $250 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Stacey L. Grubb, 34, of the 100 block of Shady Grove in Patterson, was arrested at 9:56 p.m. Wednesday on a St. Mary Parish drug court warrant for possession of methamphetamine. Grubb remains in jail on $100,000 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
