A 33-year-old Mexican man was jailed Saturday after being accused of aggravated flight from a sheriff’s deputy in Amelia, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Eder O. Calles, 33, of the 800 block of Colonia Morelos in Tampico, Mexico, was arrested at 11 p.m. Saturday for aggravated flight from an officer, maximum speed limit, failure to signal a lane change and no driver’s license.
A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The deputy initiated a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle then accelerated and passed another vehicle on the roadway, Hebert said.
The deputy followed the vehicle, which came to a stop in the 8000 block of La. 182 in Amelia. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Calles. He was jailed with no bail set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 111 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Gregory I. Johnson, 54, of the 500 block of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:12 a.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of illegal possession of stolen things and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle without properly lit lamps for conditions and operating a vehicle not covered by insurance. Johnson turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville. No bail is set.
—Travis Wells, 33, of the 100 block of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:16 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace intoxication and resisting an officer providing false information. Wells was also booked on a warrant from the 32nd Judicial District Court for failure to appear on the charges of criminal trespass and obscenity.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a residence on Southeast Boulevard and made contact with Wells. The deputy smelled an alcoholic beverage on Wells, the sheriff said. As the deputy began to escort Wells from the premises, Wells began to yell at another person, Hebert said. Wells was jailed. During booking, the deputy learned that Wells identified himself by a false name, Hebert said. Bail is set at $2,000.
—Ryan Savell, 30, of the 6600 block of La. 182 in Franklin, was arrested at 11:07 p.m. Saturday for driving while intoxicated, no driver’s license, and possession of an open alcoholic container in a motor vehicle. A deputy responded to a two vehicle crash on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area.
While on the scene of the crash, the deputy located an open container of beer inside the vehicle Savell was operating. The deputy made contact with Savell at Teche Regional Medical Center where he was being treated for injuries sustained in the crash, Hebert said.
During the crash investigation, the deputy smelled an alcoholic beverage on Savell and a blood sample was taken to determine Savell’s blood alcohol concentration. Savell was released on signature bail due his medical condition, Hebert said.
—Hector Rivera Jr., 41, of the 1500 block of Charles Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:01 p.m. Sunday for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. Rivera was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 24.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Wayne S. Hill, 55, of Morgan City, was arrested at 8:38 a.m. Friday on warrants for driving while intoxicated second offense, careless operation and suspended driver’s license. Hill turned himself in at the police department. Bail is set at $5,000.
—Kenneth Rollins, 23, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:25 a.m. Sunday for simple battery.
Rollins was arrested after a complainant accused Rollins of attacking him in a La. 182 parking lot. Officers located witnesses who confirmed the victim’s statements that Rollins attacked the victim, striking the victim several times, Banks said.
Officers had encountered Rollins and the victim earlier in the day and ordered them to stay away from each other, however, according to witnesses, Rollins returned and struck the victim. The victim then traveled to the Morgan City Police Department where he advised officers. Rollins was located and jailed.
—Leonard A. Yarborough, 52, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8 p.m. Friday on a warrant for theft of goods (value $294.80).
Yarborough, who was already in the jail, was additionally booked on a warrant secured by detectives accusing him of a theft of electrical related products from a La. 182 hardware store that occurred Sept. 6. Banks said. Yarborough remains in jail.
—Jarvis D. Allemond, 19, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:18 a.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a La. 182 RV park and located Allemond striking the outside of an RV camper with a large stick. Allemond was ordered to drop the weapon and complied with officers’ requests, Banks said.
According to witnesses, Allemond became agitated when asked to leave the premises and began to strike the RV. Allemond, who appeared impaired was arrested for the disturbance and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated. He was released after posting cash bail.
—Nicole Sanders, 28, of Aucoin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:43 a.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to pay a fine for no driver’s license.
Sanders was located at an Aucoin Street residence and arrested on an outstanding warrant for the City Court of Morgan City. She was jailed.
—Leonard A. Yarborough, 52, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 12:53 p.m. Thursday for attempted theft less than $500.
Officers were dispatched to a La. 182 pharmacy in regard to a possible shoplifter. According to store personnel, Yarborough concealed bottles of alcoholic beverage and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items, Banks said. Yarborough was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Dwana R. Townsend, 52, of the 2600 block of Orbit Court in Harvey, was arrested at 7:30 p.m. Sunday for speeding 78 mph in a 55 mph zone, resisting an officer by flight, possession of Schedule I drug with intent to distribute, possession of a prescription drug with no prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia. Townsend was jailed with no bail set yet.
—Quincy O. Johnson, 38, of the 500 block of Labau Street in Baldwin, was arrested at 10:08 p.m. Saturday for theft more than $400. Johnson was still in jail as of this morning.
—Tresh Jones, 41, of the 1500 block of Plum Street in Patterson, was arrested at 4:21 a.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace by language. Jones was still in jail as of this morning.
—Keven Pierre, 18, of the 1400 block of Hickory Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Sunday for possession of serenity (synthetic cannabinoids). Pierre was jailed with no bail set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
