Bayou Vista men arrested on drug charges in separate cases

Two Bayou Vista men were charged Tuesday on multiple drug charges in separate investigations by St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Brian Derouen, 26, of the 1200 block of South Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 5:03 p.m. Tuesday for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a legend drug, transactions involving drug proceeds and violation of the controlled dangerous substance law as it applies to drug-free zones.
Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Narcotics Division conducted a search warrant on a camper located in the 1200 block of South Road in Bayou Vista, a residence belonging to Derouen, the sheriff said. The residence is within 2,000 feet of a local church parking lot, Hebert said.
After a search was conducted, detectives located multiple bags of marijuana, multiple articles of drug paraphernalia, and a “gabapentin” pill, Hebert said. Derouen was jailed with no bail set.
—James Dinicola, 23, of the 100 block of Field Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of controlled dangerous substance (church and skate park) and for possession of a Schedule III narcotic.
St. Mary Parish Narcotics Division detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Field Street in Bayou Vista. The residence belonged to Dinicola and is located within 2,000 feet of a church and local skate park, Hebert said. During the search, detectives located high-grade marijuana, a schedule III narcotic pill and several articles of drug paraphernalia, Hebert said. Dinicola was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 40 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Randy Plessala Jr., 42, of the 300 block of Jacob Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:28 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for the charge of criminal trespass. A deputy assigned to patrol the Bayou Vista/Berwick areas located Plessala at his residence. The warrant stems from an investigation conducted the previous day where deputies learned that Plessala was operating a vehicle on the levee in the Berwick area, Hebert said. Plessala was arrested and later released on a summons to appear in court May 12.
—Anthony Bourgeois, 39, of the 300 block of Iowa Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:06 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failing to comply with terms and conditions of the drug court treatment program on the charge of possession of marijuana second offense and a warrant for failing to comply with the terms and conditions of the drug court treatment program on charges of abuse of toxic vapors, driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bourgeois was located at the Lafayette Parish Jail and was transported to the St. Mary Parish jail. Bail is set at $200,000.
Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. reported the following arrests:
—Craig M. Free, 28, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 7:44 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear for review.
Officers located Free at the intersection of La. 70 and La. 182 and placed him under arrest on an outstanding warrant for the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City. Free was jailed.
—Sherrell L. Brown, 28, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:33 p.m. Tuesday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, open container, driving under suspension and on a warrant for open container.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Federal Avenue and Marshall Street in regard to a person sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle in the roadway. Officers arrived to locate the vehicle and observed the driver, Brown, sleeping behind the wheel of a running vehicle, Griffin said.
The driver was detained and found to be in a reportedly impaired condition. Brown was found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for the Morgan City Police Department. She did poorly on a field sobriety test, Griffin said. Brown was jailed and registered 0.176 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on the Intoxilyzer 5000 test.
—Cory A. Chapman, 49, of Verdun Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 11:51 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for two counts of theft by shoplifting and for contempt of court. Chapman was located at the intersection of Fifth and Freret streets and jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Ronald Barrow Sr., 40, of Guzzetta Drive in Berwick, was arrested at 3:27 p.m. Tuesday for driving under suspension and stop sign violation. Barrow was jailed with bail set at $1,250.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
