Boys, ages 7-10, identified in Bayou Vista break-in

Four boys, ages 7 to 10, were identified as culprits in the Tuesday afternoon break-in at Bayou Vista Elementary, sheriff’s officials said.
Traci Landry, St. Mary Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, said with the help of school administrators, they identified the four boys responsible for the destruction of about $600 of food. There were no signs of forced entry, Landry said.
Principal Claire Guarisco said the break-in was caught on video. “Students of a St. Mary Parish school are responsible, and they are being processed through disciplinary procedures through the school system,” she said.
The break-in occurred after everyone left campus Tuesday and damage was mainly in the cafeteria, Guarisco said.
Landry said the children are “under the age of culpability, so no charges will be filed.” The investigation and discipline will be handled through the school system, “standard for kids that age with something like this,” she said.
The damage was discovered when the cafeteria workers arrived for their shift Wednesday morning. Guarisco said the employees exited the building, called the St. Mary Sheriff’s Office, and then called her.
Landry said the department received the call at 5:32 a.m. Wednesday.
