Dog bite leads to arrests
Two people were arrested Tuesday in Morgan City after a woman’s dog bit a man who, in turn, threatened the woman, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Samantha D. Ledom, 23, of the 400 block of Darlene Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of violation of the parish leash law ordinance.
—Dennis Norwood, 23, of the 500 block of Wheelis Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of simple assault.
A deputy responded to a report of a person being bit by a dog on Wheelis Lane. The deputy learned that Norwood was bitten on the leg by a dog belonging to Ledom, the sheriff said. Following the incident, Norwood made verbal threats to Ledom, Hebert said. Both were released on summonses to appear in court on June 17.
Hebert reported responding to 46 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Demetrius King, 46, of the 600 block of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant from Houma City Court for failure to appear on the charge of contempt of court. A deputy made contact with King at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City and learned of the active warrant for his arrest. King was transported to the parish jail for booking and later released as per Houma City Court.
—John May Jr., 25, of the 2000 block of West Side Park Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 5:42 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for theft. A deputy made contact with May at his residence and learned of the active warrant for his arrest. The warrant stems from an investigation into the theft of a boiling basket from a residence in Amelia. May was jailed with bail set at $1,000.
—Jeffery T. Matherne, 37, of the 100 block of Saint Clair Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for the charge of simple battery. A deputy assigned to patrol the Amelia area observed a vehicle moving erratically in a library parking lot, Hebert said.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Matherne. The deputy discovered that Matherne was wanted on an active warrant issued in May 2006, Hebert said.
Matherne was jailed and released on $500 bail. The deputy investigating the complaint that resulted in the warrant determined that Matherne punched another driver in the head while their vehicles were stopped at a traffic light on U.S. 90 in the Bayou Vista area, Hebert said.
Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. reported the following arrests:
—Tammy Wilson, 43, of Pierre Part, was arrested at 3:02 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for probation violation-Amite District.
Wilson was located in the City Court of Morgan City and placed under arrest on an outstanding warrant for Amite District.
Wilson was jailed with no bail set yet.
—Kelton Smith, 18, of Morgan City, was arrested at 3:36 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of introduction of contraband.
Smith was transported to the Morgan City Police Department’s jail facility on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for a trial for the Sixth Ward Court of Morgan City. Smith was booked and later released.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Claude Charlot III, 21, of the 700 block of Leonard Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:43 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for the charge of distribution of marijuana.
Charlot was jailed with no bail set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
