Franklin man arrested for slaying man

A 23-year-old Franklin man was arrested this morning for first degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a man Monday morning in Sorrel, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.

A 23-year-old Franklin man was arrested this morning for first degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a man Monday morning in Sorrel, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
Jazmine Jamal Jackson, 23, of the 600 block of Anderson Street in Franklin, was arrested at 1:54 a.m. today on a warrant for first degree murder.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of an unresponsive male in the roadway on La. 182 in the Sorrel area at 2:23 a.m. Monday. Deputies located the male lying in the roadway on Sorrel Bridge Approach Road just off of La. 182 in Sorrel, Hebert said.
The person was pronounced deceased by the St. Mary Parish coroner.
Based on evidence at the scene, detectives believe the male died of gunshot wounds and began an investigation into the apparent homicide, Hebert said.
Later in the day, detectives received information identifying Jackson as the shooter. Jackson was located walking on Main Street (La. 182) in Franklin and apprehended without incident. Detectives believe Jackson drove the victim to Sorrel Bridge Approach Road and shot him.
Detectives have identified the victim. However, the victim’s name is not being released at this time pending identification by the family as well, Hebert said. The investigation is ongoing.
