Jailer accused of smuggling contraband

A St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center jailer was arrested after he admitted he brought contraband into the jail, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Zedric Davis, 20, of the 200 block of Mechanic Street in Franklin, was arrested at 7:24 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of malfeasance in office, entering contraband into a penal institution, and obstruction of justice.
The Sheriff’s Office wouldn’t say what the contraband was.
Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Division and the Security Team from the parish jail conducted a joint investigation in regards to an employee bringing contraband into the jail. During the course of the investigation, Davis admitted to bringing in a package. The package contained cell phones and tobacco, Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry said.
Davis was also in possession of two additional packages. Davis was booked at the parish jail and later transferred to another jurisdiction.
Hebert reported responding to 42 complaints and reported the following arrests:
—James Brewer, 34, of the 100 block of Riverview Drive in Patterson, at 2:16 a.m. Thursday for disturbing the peace intoxicated. A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance at a business in Bayou Vista.
During the investigation, the deputy learned that while inside of the business, Brewer became irate with employees, and was asked to leave the establishment several times. Brewer was located in a neighboring yard and subsequently transported to the parish jail for booking. Bail is set at $500.
—Shane Suire, 20, of the 1000 block of Susan Court in Morgan City, at 9:01 p.m. Wednesday for improper lane usage, possession of Schedule IV narcotic, and a warrant for possession of Schedule I narcotic.
Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Division patrolled the Calumet area observed a vehicle continuously cross the centerline. Detectives made contact with the driver, Suire, who held an active warrant for Possession of schedule I narcotic, heroin and possession of Klonopin.
Upon exiting the vehicle, detectives located a Xanax pill on the driver seat. Suire was arrested and transported to the parish jail. No bail is set.
Morgan City Police James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Ollie R. Carlisle, 42, of Darlene Street in Patterson, at 6:31 p.m. Wednesday on warrants for failure to appear on allowing dogs to roam, failure to appear on no head lights and failure to appear on driving under suspension.
Carlisle was transported to the Morgan City Police Department by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office on the warrants held by Morgan City Police. Carlisle was booked and jailed.
—Michael M. Gonzales, 27, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, at 8:53 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of disturbing the peace intoxicated, resisting an officer, and battery on a police officer.
Officers responded to an address on Ditch Avenue in regards to a disturbance. Contact was made with the owner of the residence who stated that Gonzales was intoxicated, causing a disturbance and wanted him removed from the residence. Officers then made contact with Gonzales, who appeared to be intoxicated. Gonzales supposedly began using profane language and shouting at officers.
While attempting to handcuff him, Gonzales began fighting with officers. During the struggle, Gonzales bit an officer. After the short struggle, Gonzales was detained and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and jailed.
—Darell Gash, 34, of Orange Street in Morgan City, at 9:39 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of synthetic marijuana and appearing in public intoxicated. Officers responded to Fourth Street in regards to a complaint of a subject staggering in the area.
Officers located Gash, who appeared to be intoxicated. While placing Gash under arrest, officers located suspected synthetic marijuana on his person. Gash was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and jailed.
—Tieyon Martinez, 29, of 11th Street in Morgan City, at 3:38 a.m. Thursday on the charge of driving with a suspended driver’s license.
Officers responded to an address on General Patton Street in regards to a disturbance. Officers were told that Martinez was involved in a disturbance but had left the residence. A description of Martinez’s vehicle was provided and was located on Brashear Avenue near Fourth Street. During the traffic stop, Martinez could not provide a valid driver’s license. A driver’s license check revealed that Martinez’s license was suspended. Martinez was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
