Man arrested for principal to attempted second degree murder

A 36-year-old Patterson man turned himself in to Patterson police for principal to attempted second degree murder in connection with a Wednesday shooting that left two people wounded, Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle said in a news release.

—Johnel Dyer, 36, of the 1500 block of Live Oak in Patterson, was arrested at 5:50 a.m. Sunday for two counts of principal to attempted second degree murder. No bail has been set at this time.

Dyer is the second arrest in a Wednesday night shooting near the intersection of Ellis and Live Oak streets that left one man with injuries to his shoulder and pelvis and another man that went to Teche Regional Medical Center to have bullet fragments removed.

—Alvin Louis, 32, of Williams Street in Patterson, was arrested Thursday afternoon on two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the shooting.

Last week, LaSalle said an officer patrolling Wednesday night on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue heard gunshots and responded to the shooting at 11:48 p.m.

“This was absolutely a murder attempt,” LaSalle said.

LaSalle also reported the following arrests:

—Brodney Williams, 24, of the 1800 block of N Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:29 a.m. today for probation and parole violation and failure to appear. Williams is being held with no bail set yet.

—Shawn Welsh, 42, of the 400 block of Taft Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:09 a.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace intoxicated and on a warrant for another jurisdiction. Welsh is still being held on $410 bail.

—William Daugherty, 56, of the 1700 block of Fern Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:48 p.m. Thursday for unlawful purchase of alcoholic beverages on behalf of people under 21. Daugherty is being held on $1,000 bail.

 

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 132 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:

A 46-year-old Bayou Vista man was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm after a man was seen pointing a gun out of a vehicle window on Southwest Boulevard in Bayou Vista, Hebert said in a news release.

Richard Hoj, 46, of the 100 block of Lagonda Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:06 p.m. Sunday for aggravated assault with a firearm, two counts for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, domestic abuse battery, possession of Schedule I (marijuana), simple criminal damage to property, disturbing the peace, resisting an officer, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, reckless operation of a vehicle, and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Deputies responded to a complaint of a reckless driver on Clements Lane in Bayou Vista. While answering that call, deputies received a second complaint stating that gunshots were heard in the area of Southwest Boulevard, Hebert said. Using a description provided by witnesses, deputies put out a bulletin to neighboring agencies to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was located by Patterson police and they followed it to a residence on Pecan Lane.

Deputies located the driver, identified as Hoj, inside the home. During the investigation, deputies determined that Hoj grabbed a female in an aggressive manner before leaving Clements Lane, Hebert said. As Hoj drove away from that location, his vehicle sprayed gravel onto several vehicles and homes. According to a witness, Hoj was then seen on Southwest Boulevard pointing a gun out of the window of his vehicle. The witness stated that gunshots were then heard. After receiving consent to search Hoj’s vehicle, deputies located two guns, a burnt marijuana cigarette, and several empty beer cans, Hebert said. During his arrest, Hoj refused to comply with deputies requests to walk to the patrol vehicle. Hoj was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set. The case remains under investigation. 

—Sky Michael Leger, 32, last known address of Irish Bend Road in Franklin, was arrested at 2:39 p.m. Friday on a warrant for felony simple burglary. The warrant stems from an investigation into a burglary that occurred at an industrial property on U.S. 90 in the Calumet area. Leger was asked to come to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin in reference to the investigation. He was subsequently taken into custody on the warrant. Leger was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set. 

This arrest is the result of an investigation into another business burglary that occurred on La. 317 in the Bayou Sale area in which suspect Scott Carter was arrested. Carter has an additional charge filed for his involvement in the Calumet burglary. Carter was taken into custody by Berwick police on Oct. 19 on St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrants as well as several other charges. He remains in the Berwick jail at this time.

—Valerie M. Soto, 30, of the 100 block of Velma Court in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:39 p.m. Friday for theft. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. Soto was released on a summons to appear in court on Jan. 10.

—Mong Tuyen Thi Duval, 28, of the 500 block of Williams Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9:41 p.m. Friday for theft. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. She was released on a summons to appear in court on Jan. 10.

—Jose A. Carrasco, 31, of the 100 block of Martin Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 3:47 p.m. Saturday for hit and run driving, no driver’s license, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. A deputy responded to report of a single vehicle crash on U.S. 90 in the Siracusa area.

According to a witness, the driver of the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck the side of an overpass and careened into the nearby woods. The driver got out of the vehicle and ran into the woods. Using the description provided by the witness, the deputy located the subject who was identified as Carrasco. Following an investigation, Carrasco was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $1,750.

—Gabrielle Derouen, 18, of the 100 block of Robicheaux Lane in Verdunville, was arrested at 6:03 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace by using foul language. Deputies responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a residence on Robicheaux Lane. Deputies learned that Derouen and another person were engaged in a verbal altercation. When deputies arrived they witnessed Derouen yelling profanities at a victim. Derouen was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $500.

—Tanisha Wilkerson, 28, of the 1100 block of Grace Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:22 p.m. Saturday on warrants for probation violation and failure to appear on the charge of theft. Wilkerson was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.

—Kendall Ray Frank, 34, of the 1100 block of Dora Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:54 p.m. Saturday on three warrants for failure to appear on the charges of speeding, no driver’s license, stop sign violation, and driving under suspension. A deputy was contacted by Patterson police regarding Frank who was being held on warrants for St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Frank was taken to the parish jail and held. Bond is set at $5,674.

—Gerald Wayne Crooks, 52, of the 300 block of Degravelle Road in Amelia, was arrested at 8:53 a.m. Sunday for reckless operation of a vehicle. A deputy responded to a report of a motorist driving recklessly near Duhon Boulevard and Lake Palourde Road in Amelia. After receiving a description from the complainant, the deputy located the vehicle and the driver was identified as Crooks. Following an investigation, Crooks was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $500.

—Kristy Davis, 33, of Natalie Lane in Calumet, was arrested at 12:01 p.m. Sunday for simple battery. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance on Natalie Lane. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Davis was involved in an argument with another female when Davis pushed and struck the female victim. Davis was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $500.

Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests: 

—David Paul Guillory Jr., 34, of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:31 p.m. Thursday for operating a vehicle not covered by security, switched license plate, operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, speeding 33 mph in a 15 mph zone, failure to secure registration, and on a warrant hold for Terrebonne Parish (speeding and no driver’s license.)

When an officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle, the driver proceeded to a Garber Street residence and attempted to enter into the residence when he was detained by officers, Crouch said. Maize was also observed to discard an open container of beer from the vehicle onto the street as officers approached. Guillory was the driver of the vehicle.

Both were taken to the police department and held.

—Bryan Keith Maize, 34, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:31 p.m. Friday on a warrant for contempt of court for failure to pay restitution and littering.

—Carl Wayne Allen, 22, of Park Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Friday for possession of marijuana, operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, and display of license plate.

Officers patrolling the area of Federal Avenue and Bowman Street observed a vehicle with no license plate displayed. As officers detained the vehicle, Allen and a passenger in the vehicle fled. Officers unsuccessfully searched the area for the passenger. The driver, Allen, was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. He was also found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. He was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and held. 

—Curtis Rene Robertson, 43, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:20 p.m. Sunday for entry where forbidden and disturbing the peace intoxicated.

Robertson was arrested after officers had received several calls in regards to the subject, Robertson, causing a disturbance at a Fifth Street residence. Robertson had previously been advised by officers not to return to the Fifth Street residence. Officers located Robertson at the residence in question. He was found to be in an intoxicated condition. He was taken to the police department and held. 

—Gina B. Philburn, 42, of Morgan City, was arrested at 9:21 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for theft by shoplifting, a warrant for resisting an officer, and possession of Schedule IV CDS-Xanax.

Officers were dispatched to a local drug store regarding a suspected shoplifter and located Philburn inside the bathroom. Philburn was taken to the police department and held. 

—Shane Scott, 30, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:40 p.m. Thursday for no license plate light and driving under suspension. 

Police observed a vehicle being driven that did not have a license plate light. Officers conducted a traffic stop and found that Scott was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Scott was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and held. 

—Resa Boothe, 47, of Morgan City, was arrested at 10:13 a.m. Wednesday for appearing intoxicated in public and simple battery. 

Police were dispatched to a local motel for a disturbance. Upon arrival officers located and spoke to Boothe. It was determined that Boothe was involved in a verbal altercation with another patron at the hotel. Boothe appeared to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage at the time of the complaint. Boothe and the other person involved were advised by officers to go inside for the night. 

A few minutes later, police received a second call to the same motel. Upon arrival it was found that Boothe exited her room again and went to the room of another patron and began to cause a disturbance, and committed a battery on the individual, Crouch said. Boothe was taken to Morgan City Police Department and held. 

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
