Man booked on drug charges after medical emergency

A 33-year-old Vacherie man was arrested Monday on multiple drug charges after St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a medical emergency at a Patterson area business, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Blair Irvin Jr., 33, of S. Spruce Street in Vacherie, was arrested at 3:32 p.m. Monday on the charges possession of clonazepam with intent to distribute, possession of Xanax with intent to distribute and possession of methamphetamine.
Deputies responded to a medical emergency call at a business on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area. When they arrived, they found a sweating, drooling man who appeared to be asleep in a chair.
The deputy woke up the man and identified him as Irvin. The deputy observed that Irvin continued to sweat profusely, refused to remove is hands from his pockets and was unable to answer questions about his present condition.
While speaking with Irvin, the deputy requested that he empty his pockets. Irvin produced a small prescription pill bottle without a prescription label on it.
Inside, the deputy located 23 clonazepam pills, nine Xanax pills and a small plastic bag containing methamphetamine. Acadian Ambulance arrived on scene, rendered a medical assessment, and released Irvin. Irvin was then transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 43 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Dean Beranek, 31, of Burchfield Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 12:11 p.m. Monday on a bond surrender. Beranek turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. Beranek was released on $30,000 property bail.
—Jennifer Beecher, 32, of Beadle Street in Amelia, was arrested at 12:16 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana. A deputy located Beecher at her residence on the warrant and transported her to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. No bail is set.
—Bryce Treadway, 23, of Firetower Road in Jonesboro, was arrested at 9:04 p.m. Monday on the charges of no tail lights and no motor vehicle insurance. A deputy observed a vehicle with no tail lights traveling on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy spoke with the driver, identified as Treadway. At the time of the traffic stop, Treadway was unable to produce proof of insurance. Treadway was released on a summons to appear in court April 5.
—Michael Mckinnon, 24, of Mars Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:19 p.m. Monday on the charges of license plate lights required and possession of marijuana.
—Emilie K. Businelle, 23, of Superior Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:19 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics detectives patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle with no license plate lights and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, Mckinnon, and passenger, Businelle, they smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and observed a pack of rolling papers in Businelle’s purse.
Detectives received consent to search the vehicle and located a bag of marijuana and a piece of a burnt marijuana cigarette. Following the investigation, both Mckinnon and Businelle were released on summonses to appear in court April 5.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Alton Hue Jr., 38, of Gina Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:04 p.m. Monday on the charges of DWI second offense, improper parking, expired driver’s license and no insurance. Hue was jailed with no bail set yet.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrest:
—Damenn M. Engleton, 27, of Grandwood Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 7:39 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with domestic abuse battery.
Officers located Engleton on Federal Avenue near Kidd Street where he was arrested on a Patterson police warrant. Engleton was transported to the Morgan City jail.
