Man booked on multiple drug charges

Staff Report

A 26-year-old Morgan City man was arrested Wednesday on multiple drug charges and driving violations, said Berwick Police Chief James Richard.
—Freddie Sellers, 26, of Key Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:31 a.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, possession of Adderall, possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute, possession of Xanax with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of contraband in a penal institution, violation of controlled dangerous substance law-drug free zone, license plate light required, switched license plate and driving under suspension.
An officer conducted a traffic stop at Pattie Drive and Hebert Street for a license plate light out and switched license plate, Richard said. The officer smelled a “strong odor of raw marijuana coming from the side of the vehicle,” Richard said. Police then searched the vehicle and found items that resulted in Sellers’ numerous charges, the chief said.
No bail is set.
Richard also reported the following arrests:
—Darla Percle, 29, of Emy Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 11:31 a.m. Tuesday on warrants charging her with child desertion and driving under suspension. Percle posted $1,500 bail.
The warrants stems from an incident that occurred about 11:30 a.m. Jan. 24 when an officer found Percle sleeping in a truck in a driveway on River Road in Berwick, Richard said. The officer found Percle slumped over in the driver's seat, and Acadian Ambulance was called to check on Percle and an infant that was also inside the truck, he said.
The infant was in the back seat, covered with a blanket and sweating due to the heat, Richard said. Police learned Percle had fallen asleep and had been sitting in the driveway for over an hour, the chief said. She was in a condition where she was unable to take care of the child, thus resulting in the child desertion charge, Richard said.
Percle was treated at a hospital, released and later located on the warrants. The infant was treated and released from the hospital, too, Richard said. Authorities contacted the Office of Community Services regarding the infant, he said.
