New crosswalks spruce-up downtown

The city has installed three crosswalks downtown made of a rubbery brick-looking material, which has been used in other communities and has a lifespan of about 10 years, Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi said.
“We did the first three (crosswalks) to make sure that it is what it was sold to us to be. And now we’re getting ready to do the rest, which is basically the four corners around (Lawrence) Park,” Grizzaffi said.
The material can be changed out in sections when needed, Grizzaffi said.
The crosswalks were paid for as part of a $35,000 allocation from the state secured by state Rep. Sam Jones, D-Franklin, Morgan City Main Street Director Steve Morrell said.
The crosswalks were installed by Ennis-Flint, a traffic safety and pavement marking company. The material used is durable and thermoplastic, according to the company’s website.
The $35,000 also provided benches and stop signs for downtown, and $14,000 of that money was dedicated for improvements at City Hall, the mayor said.
