Morgan City man charged with attempted murder in stabbing

After allegedly stabbing and cutting a woman in Terrebonne Parish, a 35-year-old Morgan City man was apprehended this morning in Morgan City and charged with attempted murder, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
Ashraf Khalil, 35, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:35 a.m. today on a Terrebonne Parish warrant charging him with attempted second degree murder.
Morgan City officers were dispatched to the Circle K convenience store located at La. 182 and Grizzaffi Street in reference to an injured woman at that location. Officers arrived and subsequently located an injured woman in the restroom at that location, Blair said.
During the investigation and subsequent statements, police discovered that the female victim and Khalil were involved in some type of altercation in Terrebonne Parish.
Khalil allegedly stabbed and cut the female victim multiple times and then drove to the Morgan City area, Blair said. The victim, who was an acquaintance of Khalil, was able to stop at the Circle K convenience store upon arriving in the Morgan City area and got help, Blair said.
Morgan City officers detained Khalil, who was located at the scene. Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators arrived to investigate the incident and secured an arrest warrant for Khalil. Morgan City officers arrested Khalil and transported him to the Morgan City jail where he remains incarcerated awaiting transport to Terrebonne Parish. The female victim was hospitalized and is in stable condition, Blair said.
