Police: Inmate shoved jailor to the floor

A 34-year-old Houma man, already incarcerated in the St. Mary Parish jail, was accused Monday of pushing a jailer to the floor, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Dewon M. Rials, 34, of the 200 block of Patrick Street in Houma, was additionally charged with battery of a correctional facility employee at 8:29 a.m. Tuesday. Rials is an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. On Monday, Rials pushed a jailer to the floor while the jailer was assisting medical personnel with a medical check requested by the inmate, Hebert said. Rials remains incarcerated.
Hebert reported responding to 38 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Son Nguyen, 40, of the 600 block of Cypress Street in Amelia, at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of driving under suspension fourth offense. A deputy assigned to patrol the Charenton area observed Nguyen driving a vehicle on La. 182. From a previous encounter, the deputy knew Nguyen was driving with a suspended license and conducted a traffic stop. Nguyen was jailed and released on $1,000 bail.
—Povial Ward, 25, of the 300 block of La. 998 in Belle Rose, at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of theft of goods and on a warrant from the City of Franklin for failure to appear on the charges of driver’s license suspended and stop sign violation.
—Victoria L. Collins, 25, of the 700 block of S. Sammy Avenue in Gonzales, at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of illegal possession of stolen things.
—Aalyha Ward, 18, of the 700 block of S. Sammy Avenue in Gonzales, at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of illegal possession of stolen things.
A deputy responded to a report of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. With the assistance of store personnel, deputies viewed video surveillance footage showing Aalyha Ward concealing items on her person and leaving the store without paying for the goods, Hebert said.
A short time later, Collins and Aalyha Ward are seen attempting to return the stolen items at the store for a cash refund, the sheriff said.
The deputy also located an active warrant for Povial Ward’s arrest. Collins and Aalyha Ward were released on summons to appear in court Sept. 16. Povial Ward was jailed with bail set at $1,336.
—Gia S. Gautier, 51, of the 700 block of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, at 6:43 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of Schedule II oxycodone with intent to distribute, distribution of Schedule IV diazepam, possession of Schedule IV diazepam with intent to distribute, obstruction of justice and no turn signal.
—Paula B. Adams, 51, of the 500 block of Third Street in Morgan City, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of possession of Schedule IV diazepam.
A narcotics detective patrolling the Bayou Vista area conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Cross Road after the driver failed to use a turn signal.
The detective made contact with the driver, Gautier, and advised her of the reason for the stop.
While speaking with Gautier, the detective observed a prescription bottle in her purse and asked to see it. Gautier consented, and the detective learned that the prescription for oxycodone was not for her, Hebert said.
The bottle contained three oxycodone pills.
When the detective asked Gautier to step out of the vehicle, she was seen throwing another prescription bottle under her vehicle, Hebert said. The detective detained Gautier and discovered that the second prescription bottle prescribed for diazepam also did not belong to her. Gautier admitted to the detective that she sold pills, the sheriff said. Gautier was jailed with no bail set.
Continuing the investigation, the detective went to Adams’ residence where she admitted that she purchased diazepam pills from Gautier earlier in the day. Adams showed the detective where the pills were. Adams was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Matthew P. Boudreaux, 39, of Gen. Patton Street in Morgan City, at 8:04 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of careless operation with an accident, possession of Schedule III Alprazolam and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were dispatched to the La. 182 bridge in regards to a single vehicle crash. Officers arrived to investigate and spoke to the driver, Boudreaux. Boudreaux stated that he was heading west when his rear tires spun and he lost control of the vehicle, Blair said.
While talking to Boudreaux, officers observed several pills in the vehicle identified as Alprazolam and drug paraphernalia, Blair said. Boudreaux was jailed.
—Aldrico R. Signal, 29, of Franklin, at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and no turn signal.
An officer in the area of Federal and Brashear avenues observed a vehicle with improper lighting. The officer stopped the vehicle to investigate and the driver, Signal, gave the consent to search the vehicle, Blair said. The officer located suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a firearm inside the vehicle, Blair said. Signal was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Traylin D. Smith, 21, of the 100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Patterson, at 12:17 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for the charge of simple battery involving domestic violence. Smith was jailed with no bail set.
—Kevin Gant, 28, of the 1700 block of Fern Street in Patterson, at 3:41 a.m. today on a Morgan City Police warrant charging him with failure to return a leased movable. Gant was incarcerated in Patterson jail with no bail set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
