Police: Morgan City man arrested after swallowing bag with marijuana

A 28-year-old Morgan City man was arrested Wednesday after police officers observed him swallowing a bag with suspected marijuana inside, Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch said in a news release.
—Zachary Johnson, 28, of Patton Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:21 p.m. Wednesday for resisting an officer, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, no seat belt and obstruction of justice, on a warrant for a St. Mary Parish Drug Court violation.
Officers were attempting to locate Johnson on an outstanding warrant for St. Mary Parish. Officers located Johnson operating a vehicle on Roderick Street. As officers detained Johnson, he was observed swallowing a cellophane bag which officers suspected contained marijuana, Crouch said.
He was also found to be operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and without a seatbelt. He was taken to Teche Regional Medical Center for treatment. Due to medical concerns, the officers were not able to recover the contraband, Crouch said. He was taken to Morgan City Police Department where he remains in jail.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrest:
—Nicole M. Hillebrandt, 35, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:48 a.m. Wednesday for speeding, driving under suspension, switched license plate and possession of marijuana, on a warrant from Terrebonne Parish for theft of goods.
Hillebrandt was stopped at the intersection of Federal and Railroad avenues for a traffic violation. The officer determined that Hillebrandt was driving with a suspended driver’s license and a switched license plate. Officers determined that she was a wanted person in Terrebonne Parish. She was also found to possess suspected marijuana. She was taken to the Morgan City Police Department where she remains in jail with bail set at $1,440.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 57 complaints during a 24-hour period in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Alanni Clark, 19, of the 900 block of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant from Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on the charge of theft. Deputies investigating a complaint on Marguerite Street in Morgan City made contact with Clark and learned of the warrant for her arrest. Clark was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set. 
—Kaci Authement, 22, of the 100 block of Lambert Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on a traffic charge. A deputy responding to a complaint of a suspicious person made contact with Authement and subsequently learned of the warrant for her arrest. She was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $319.50.
—David D. Brown, 42, of the 2600 block of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 5:01 p.m. Wednesday for theft of goods. A deputy responding to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista learned from personnel that Brown was seen taking items and leaving the store without paying for the goods. Brown was released on a summons to appear in court Jan. 10.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Mary Bennett, 64, of the 500 block of Cleveland Street in Patterson, was arrested at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday for aggravated assault. Bail is set at $1,000.
St. Martin Parish Sheriff Ronnie Theriot reported the following arrest:
—Randolph Vilo, 53, of the 900 block of Washington Street in Patterson, was arrested on a hold for the St. Martin Parish Sheriff.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
