Police: Rumors of shooting threat at game are unsubstantiated

Rumors that a Morgan City High School student threatened a shooting during Friday’s Morgan City jamboree football game were unsubstantiated, Morgan City Police Capt. Betty Augman said this morning.
The student, 15, was located at his home at about 1:30 p.m. Friday and charged with simple battery stemming from an incident at Morgan City High School where the student got into a verbal altercation with someone at school, Augman said. When a teacher tried to break up the altercation, the student allegedly pushed the teacher, Augman said.
Police received rumors that the 15-year-old student made a comment threatening a shooting but “have no proof that he made it,” Augman said.
Morgan City High Principal Mickey Fabre said police told him “there were texts containing rumors that were circulating. However, they were unable to confirm the source or the legitimacy of these texts.”
The student charged with simple battery didn’t attend Friday’s football game, Augman said.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Lawerence P. Carbins, 33, of Leona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. Saturday on warrants charging him with home invasion and simple battery.
Carbins was transported from the Berwick Police Department to the Morgan City Police Department for an active warrant he held for the Morgan City Police Department.
The warrant stems from an incident in November 2014, in which Carbins is alleged to have entered a home on Onstead Street and committed a battery on an individual, Blair said. Carbins was jailed with no bail set yet.
—Shane O. Suire, 19, of Susan Court in Morgan City, was arrested at 10 p.m. Friday on warrants charging him with simple burglary, forgery and possession of stolen things.
Suire was transported from the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center to the Morgan City Police Department for an active warrant he held for the Morgan City Police Department.
The warrant stems from an Aug. 26 complaint which alleges that Suire burglarized a vehicle on Lesley Drive, Blair said. One of the items stolen from the vehicle was a check that Suire is alleged to have forged in the amount of $1,200, Blair said. Suire was jailed.
—Fred Kenner, 29, of Grace Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:19 p.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana, resisting an officer, battery on an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Stanley Ruffing, 48, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:19 p.m. Sunday on the charges of driving under suspension, careless operation and failure to signal.
An officer in the area of Sixth and Freret streets observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal and conducted a traffic stop. Officers also observed the vehicle almost crash into someone riding a bicycle, Blair said. As the vehicle pulled over, the passenger in the vehicle, Kenner, began to flee on foot, Blair said.
Kenner was eventually located, and while being placed under arrest, he struck one of the officers, Blair said. Officers located suspected marijuana on Kenner and items used to smoke illegal narcotics, Blair said.
The driver of the vehicle, Ruffin, was determined to have a suspended driver’s license. Both Ruffin and Kenner were jailed.
—Eduardo Machado, 38, of Willard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:48 p.m. Sunday on the charges of simple battery, aggravated assault, resisting an officer by giving false information, and on a warrant for two counts of failure to appear.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Willard Street in regard to a disturbance. When officers arrived, they were told that Machado had struck an individual and threatened that person with a knife, Blair said.
Officers located Machado, who at first gave officers a false name, and said he and the victim had gotten into a verbal altercation, Blair said. Machado was determined to have active warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court. Machado was jailed.
—Laclifford Powell, 33, of La. 182 West in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:25 a.m. Saturday on the charges of disturbing the peace, simple battery and remaining after being forbidden.
Officers were dispatched to a bar on La. 182 in Morgan City in regard to a disturbance. When officers arrived, they were told that Powell was causing a disturbance in the bar and was asked to leave several times, but refused, Blair said. They were also told that Powell had struck one of the employees. Officers spoke to the victim and observed marks on his facial area, Blair said.
Officers made contact with Powell, who was yelling and using profanities, Blair said. He was asked to calm down by officers, but did not comply. Powell was jailed.
—Chyral C. Whitehead, 35, of Perro Street in Berwick, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. Saturday on a warrant charging her with probation violation.
Whitehead was transported from the Berwick Police Department to the Morgan City Police Department on an active warrant she held for the Sixth Ward City Court. Whitehead was jailed.
—Mario A. Medina, 52, of Barrow Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:59 p.m. Saturday on the charges of no driver’s license and reckless operation.
A patrol officer in the area of Ditch and Railroad avenues observed a speeding vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Medina, was found to have no driver’s license and was jailed.
—Benjamin T. Weaver, 39, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:27 p.m. Saturday on the charge of appearing in public intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to a local business on La. 182 in regard to an intoxicated individual inside the business. When officers arrived, they located the individual, identified as Weaver, outside of the business lying on the ground. Officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, Blair said. Weaver was jailed.
—Fredrick Guzzetta, 18, of Utah Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:01 p.m. Saturday on a warrant charging him with failure to appear.
Guzzetta was located in the area of Front Street. It was determined that Guzzetta held an active warrant for the Sixth Ward City Court. Guzzetta was jailed.
—Michael Cairns, 33, of La. 662 in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:34 a.m. Sunday on the charge of appearing in public intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Third and Everett streets in regard to an intoxicated individual in the area. Officers arrived and observed a person, identified as Cairns, lying on the ground. Officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, Blair said. Cairns was jailed.
—Kenny Rodriguez, 23, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:32 p.m. Sunday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to a local bar on La. 182 in regard to a disturbance. When officers arrived, they were told that a suspect was yelling and preventing the customers from leaving, Blair said. Officers located Rodriguez and he appeared intoxicated. Rodriguez was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 119 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Ronald Lena, 41, of the 800 block of Camp Street in New Orleans, was arrested at 5:08 p.m. Friday on the charges of illegal possession of stolen things and on a warrant from Calhoun County, Florida, for criminal use personal identification information (identity theft).
—Brandy Guidry, 32, of the 100 block of Pitre Street in Houma, was arrested at 5:08 p.m. Friday on the charge of theft of goods and on a warrant from Terrebonne Parish for failure to appear on the charges of theft of goods and theft of goods of $500 or more.
—Leroy Dardar, 43, of the 100 block of Texas Gulf Road in Bourg, was arrested at 5:08 p.m. Friday on the charge of theft of goods.
Deputies responded to a report of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. With the assistance of Patterson Police, deputies located three suspects identified as Lena, Guidry, and Dardar.
During the investigation, deputies learned that Guidry and Dardar concealed bottles of liquor beneath their clothing and left the store without paying for the items. Guidry and Dardar then placed the stolen goods in a truck being driven by Lena, Hebert said.
Deputies determined that Lena knew that Guidry and Dardar stole the liquor. Deputies also located active warrants for Lena and Guidry. All three suspects were transported to the parish jail for booking.
Dardar was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 17.
No bail is set for Guidry and Lena.
—Brennan Skinner, 23, of the 1000 block of Grace Street in Siracusaville, was arrested at 9:46 a.m. Friday on a warrant charging him with disturbing the peace fighting.
Skinner turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on an administrative sanction. During booking, a jailer located an active warrant for his arrest. The warrant is the result of an investigation into a complaint of an Aug. 16 fight on Grace Street near Joseph Street.
When the deputy arrived, he encountered a group of people standing on the corner of Joseph and Ciro streets and learned that three men were involved in a fight, Hebert said.
Through the investigation, the deputy determined that two of the suspects, identified as Cedric Gant and Skinner, were the aggressors in the altercation. Gant was arrested Aug. 16 and a warrant was obtained for Skinner’s arrest.
Skinner was released after posting $500 bail.
—Russell Breaux, 49, of the 100 block of Olive Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 12:49 p.m. Sunday on the charge of criminal damage to property.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance in progress at a residence on Diana Lane in the Patterson area. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Breaux damaged a door inside the residence during a confrontation with another person. Breaux was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 17.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Brent Dalton, 35, of Sidney Jo Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 2:40 p.m. Friday on warrants charging him with prohibited acts Schedule II methamphetamine, possession of Schedule IV Xanax, prohibited acts Schedule II hydrocodone, prohibited acts Schedule II methadone, prohibited acts Schedule III Subutex, possession of marijuana second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Dalton was transferred to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville for holding.
—Taylor Murphy, 20, of Greenleaf Boulevard in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:20 a.m. Sunday on the charge of simple battery. Murphy was jailed with bail set at $300.
—Nicholas Grimmett, 35, of Cypress Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 1:20 a.m. Sunday on the charge of simple battery. Grimmett was released on $300 bail and transferred to the Morgan City Police Department on a warrant.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Gregory Wilkes, 32, of the 700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Patterson, was arrested at 4:08 p.m. Sunday on the charge of simple battery-domestic. Wilkes was jailed with no bail set yet.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Aaron Simoneaux, 26, of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:26 p.m. Friday on the charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon of certain felonies, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of Schedule II methamphetamine.
Simoneaux was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville.
