Police: Two caught with ecstasy pills after traffic stop

A 37-year-old woman and 21-year-old man were caught with ecstasy pills Friday after Morgan City police stopped a vehicle traveling more than twice the speed limit on Levee Road, Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Kissy Campbell, 37, of Halsey Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:17 p.m. Friday on the charge of possession of ecstasy.
—Gregory T. Kemp, 21, of Shaw Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:17 p.m. Friday on the charge of possession of ecstasy, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and no driver’s license.
Narcotics unit investigators saw a vehicle in the area of Federal Avenue near Leona Street traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle turned onto Levee Road without obeying the stop sign.
The vehicle was estimated to be traveling in excess of 60 mph in a 25 mph speed zone on Levee Road. Investigators were able to catch up with the vehicle in the area of Shaw and Elm streets and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Kemp, and passenger as Campbell.
Kemp and Campbell’s behavior made officers suspicious that they may be involved in illegal drug activity. A search of the vehicle was conducted and investigators located suspected ecstasy pills. Both Kemp and Campbell were jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Branshekia S. Harris, 28, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Saturday on the charge of simple battery.
Officers responded to a home on Fifth Street in regard to a reported disturbance involving a battery. Officers arrived and located Harris, along with the complainant, who showed signs of a battery.
The victim and several witnesses told police that Harris and the victim were involved in an argument when Harris allegedly committed a battery on the victim. Harris was jailed.
—Kade M. Percle, 20, of Sydney Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 10:18 p.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper turning.
A patrolling officer ob-served a vehicle making an improper turn while traveling on Brashear Avenue and stopped the vehicle. The driver was identified as Percle.
Percle’s behavior made the officer suspicious that Percle may be involved in illegal drug activity. The officer searched the vehicle and located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Percle was jailed.
—Heather D. LaCoste, 32, of Marshall Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:01 a.m. Sunday on warrants for failure to appear for resisting an officer, contempt of court and failure to appear for arraignment.
LaCoste was located at a local hotel on Brashear Avenue where she was arrested on active warrants held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.
LaCoste was transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.
—Armond Perez, 32, of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, was arrested at 9:19 p.m. Sunday on the charges of driving while intoxicated, no driver’s license, and no vehicle insurance.
An officer responded to the area of La. 182 near La. 70 in regard to a call of a possible drunk driver. The officer arrived moments later and located a vehicle matching the description provided.
A traffic stop was conduct-ed and the driver of the vehicle identified as Perez. During an investigation, reports indicate that Perez was suspected to have been drinking and suspected to be intoxicated. Perez did not have a valid driver’s license nor did the vehicle have proof of insurance.
Perez was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for further chemical testing where Perez submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000, yielding a blood alcohol concentration of 0.175 grams-percent.
Perez was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.
—Gregory Landry, 17, of Lake Palourde Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:02 p.m. Sunday on the charge of simple battery.
An officer responded to a local medical facility in regard to a complaint of a battery. The officer arrived and spoke with someone who told police Landry had committed a battery on the person during an argument. Officers located Landry moments later at a home on Lake Palourde Drive where Landry was arrested on the alleged battery. Landry was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 97 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Karen Fleetwood, 51, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:36 p.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of crack cocaine and improper lane usage.
Narcotics division detectives patrolling Amelia ob-served a vehicle cross over the fog line on Joel Boulevard. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Fleetwood. Detectives observed that Fleetwood was extraordinarily nervous.
While speaking with detectives, Fleetwood turned over two small baggies containing crack cocaine that she had hidden on her. Following the investigation, Fleetwood was booked into parish jail and released on $2,500 bail.
—Micah Soileau, 18, of Joey Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:22 p.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of marijuana.
Narcotics detectives patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign on Saturn Road and Jupiter Street. Detectives conducted a traffic stop.
As they made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, detectives smelled the strong odor of burnt marijuana. The passenger, identified as Soileau, admitted to detectives that he had marijuana and turned over a bag of the illegal substance. Soileau was released on a summons to appear in court Oct. 17.
—Andrea M. Ackman, 32, of Julia Street in Amelia, was arrested at 10:56 a.m. Friday on the charge of violation of the parish ordinance governing the confinement of animals.
A deputy responded to Julia Street in Amelia in reference to a complaint of a dog chasing a subject in the street. When the deputy arrived, the animal came out of a yard and began barking at the deputy. The deputy spoke with the owner, Ackman, and advised her that the animal was loose. Ackman was released on a summons to appear in court Oct. 17.
—Brett M. LeBoeuf, 21, of Dale Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:52 a.m. Sunday on the charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a reckless driver on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area. The deputy located the suspect vehicle, conducted a traffic stop, and made contact with the driver, identified as LeBoeuf. While speaking with LeBoeuf, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.
LeBoeuf performed poorly on a field sobriety test. LeBoeuf later registered 0.181 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. LeBoeuf was booked into parish jail and released after posting $750 bail.
—Jody L. Foster, 50, of Carol Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:06 p.m. Saturday on the charge of simple battery.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a home in Bayou Vista. During the investigation, the deputy found evidence that Foster used his index finger to hit a female victim in the head during an argument. Foster was booked into parish jail and released on $500 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Raymond Coler, 51, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:20 p.m. Friday on the charges of two headlamps required and driving under suspension. Coler posted $1,250 bail.
—Carlos Hernandez, 23, of St. Paul’s Street in Houma, was arrested at 11:51 p.m. Friday on the charges of DWI, no driver’s license and improper lane usage. No bail is set.
—Ricky Pillaro, 60, of First Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:08 a.m. Saturday on the charges of license plate light required, driving under suspension, open container and on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant for failure to appear.
—David White, 59, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 2:46 a.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of distribution of marijuana. No bail is set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
