Sheriff: Berwick man threw woman to ground

A 29-year-old Berwick man was booked on a domestic violence charge Saturday after lifting a woman and throwing her to the ground at a Bayou Vista business, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Michael A. Jackson, 29, of Parro Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 11:12 p.m. Saturday on the charge of second-degree battery domestic violence.
A deputy responding to a medical emergency at a business on La. 182 in Bayou Vista received information that a woman sustained injuries as a result of domestic abuse.
During the investigation, the deputy collected evidence that Jackson lifted up the woman and threw her to the ground. The victim was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center for treatment. Jackson was located at his home and subsequently transported to the parish jail for booking. Jackson was released after posting $2,500 bail.
Hebert reported responding to 138 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Lonnie M. Florence, 26, of Jeanerette, was arrested at 3:05 p.m. Friday on the charges of two counts of unauthorized use of an access card.
A detective investigating the complaint found evidence that Florence used the victim’s credit card without the victim’s permission to make two separate purchases at a store in Bayou Vista. The victim knew Florence. The purchases totaled just over $165. Florence was released on a summons to appear in court April 5.
—Jorge Cordova, 33, of Duval Street in Amelia, was arrested at 11:33 p.m. Friday on the charge of domestic abuse battery.
A deputy responded to a report of domestic abuse at a home in Amelia. The deputy spoke with several subjects at the residence and collected evidence that Cordova repeatedly punched a woman in the face and head. Cordova then kicked her several times.
The victim was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center for treatment. The deputy transported Cordova to the parish jail for booking. Cordova was released after posting $2,500 bail.
—Jimmy R. Billiot Sr., 43, of Degravelle Road in Amelia, was arrested at 2:50 a.m. Saturday on the charge of sexual battery.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a business on La. 182 in Amelia. During the investigation, the deputy found evidence that Billiot grabbed another man’s buttocks without the victim’s consent. Billiot was booked into parish jail and released after posting $750 bail.
—Damien Keller, 33, of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:50 a.m. Saturday on a warrant charging him with theft of goods and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of no motor vehicle insurance, driving with a suspended license, and failure to secure vehicle registration.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista made contact with Keller and located the active warrants for his arrest. The warrant for theft was obtained following an investigation into a complaint of shoplifting from a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy collected evidence that Keller stole a DVD player. Keller was jailed with bail set at $3,250.
—Michael Talbert, 27, of Tall Timbers Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 9:28 a.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of marijuana. A deputy investigating a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 90 near La. 318 located marijuana inside one of the vehicles. The deputy found evidence that the illegal substance belonged to Talbert, the driver of the vehicle. Talbert was released on a summons to appear in court April 5.
—Donald R. Brown Jr., 33, of Samson Street in Abbeville, was arrested at 8:55 a.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of monetary instrument abuse. A deputy received information regarding Brown’s whereabouts and located him on Marguerite Street in Morgan City on the warrant. Brown was jailed with bail set at $50,000.
—Corey Leblanc, 35, of Lagonda Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:41 a.m. Sunday on the charge of burglary of an inhabited dwelling.
Deputies responded to a burglary in progress on La. 182 in Bayou Vista. When deputies arrived, they developed a description of the suspect and the suspect’s direction of travel. Deputies located a person matching the description of the suspect inside a home on Lagonda Road.
During the investigation, Leblanc was positively identified as the suspect in the burglary. Deputies found evidence that Leblanc entered the home and stole the victim’s purse. Deputies recovered the purse and returned it to the owner. Leblanc was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Martin Chatman Jr. 34, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:01 a.m. Friday on the charge of domestic abuse child-endangerment.
Officers responded to a home on Third Street in regard to a reported domestic disturbance. The officers arrived when they located Chatman along with a woman who appeared to be the victim of a battery and three children all under 5 years old.
Police were told that during an argument between Chatman and the woman, he allegedly committed a battery on her while in the presence of the three children. Investigators found evidence of the alleged battery. Chatman was jailed.
—Ashley Rudolph, 24, of Saturn Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:29 a.m. Saturday on the charges of DWI, possession of marijuana and red light violation.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red light at the intersection of La. 182 at Myrtle Street and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Rudolph, was suspected to have been drinking and believed to be intoxicated.
Rudolph was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where for further chemical testing. She submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000 test, yielding a blood alcohol concentration of 0.116 grams-percent.
Officers conducted a more thorough search of Rudolph and located suspected marijuana on her. Rudolph was jailed.
—Purcell A. Gros, 42, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:33 a.m. Saturday on a warrant charging him with probation violation.
Officers located Gros at an address on La. 182 where he was arrested on a City Court warrant. Gros was jailed.
—Rose L. Carbonell, 31, of Two Sisters Court in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:11 p.m. Saturday on the charges of improper lane usage and DWI.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle on La. 70 traveling out of its designated lane of travel and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Carbonell, was suspected to have been drinking and believed to be intoxicated.
Carbonell was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for further chemical testing but refused the Intoxilyzer 5000 test. Carbonell was jailed.
—Katie J. Robinson, 50, of Marshall Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:16 p.m. Sunday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
An officer responded to the area of Sixth Street near Spruce Street in regard to an intoxicated woman causing a disturbance. The officer arrived and located a woman who matched the description provided and identified her as Robinson. Robinson was screaming and cursing at the officer during the investigation. Robinson was jailed.
—Miguel A. Galeas, 27, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:18 p.m. Sunday on a warrant charging him with contempt of court.
Officers located Galeas at a home on Brashear Avenue and arrested him on a City Court warrant. Galeas was jailed.
—Ryan J. Kemp, 33, of Joseph Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:33 a.m. Sunday on the charges of misuse of bright lights and driving under suspension.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Victor II Boulevard and Brashear Avenue with its bright lights activated to oncoming traffic and stopped the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Kemp, and the officer learned that Kemp had a suspended driver’s license. Kemp was jailed.
—Ahmad J. Rashad, 30, of Claudet Avenue in Zachary, was arrested at noon Monday on the charges of expired motor vehicle inspection sticker, driving under suspension, resisting an officer on warrants charging him with speeding and driving under suspension.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling on Railroad Avenue with an expired motor vehicle inspection sticker. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop when the driver failed to stop and continued traveling for several blocks, later stopping at the intersection of First and Union streets.
During a traffic investigation, police learned that the driver of the vehicle gave the officer a false name to hide his true identity. After several moments officers were able to uncover the driver true identity as Ahmad. The officer learned that Ahmad had a suspended driver’s license and several active City Court warrants. Ahmad was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Casey Lopez, 35, of Kemper Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:10 p.m. Monday on the charge of simple battery. Lopez was released on $319 bail.
—David Burrell, 32, of Taft Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:10 p.m. Monday on the charge of simple battery. Burrell was released on $319 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Milton Perry, 49, of Lagonda Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:20 a.m. Monday on warrants charging him with simple battery and violation of a protective order. Bail is set at $10,000.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Shaylon Grogan, 24, of Wren Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:11 p.m. Sunday on a warrant dated May 4, 2014, for the charge of domestic abuse battery. Officers responded to a disturbance in the area of Rosemary Street While in a verbal altercation, Grogan allegedly pushed the victim. Grogan was booked, processed and released on $2,500 bail.
—Sharnell Ruffin, 30, of Cardinal Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:57 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for the 3rd Ward City Court for failure to appear on the charge of theft. Ruffin was jailed with no bail set yet.
