Patterson man charged with possession of a firearm by convicted felon at festival

MORGAN CITY, La. -- A 21-year-old Morgan City man was arrested Saturday at the Shrimp &Petroleum Festival for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after being seen urinating in public, Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch said in a news release.

Jerroid Jermaine Garrison, 21, of Orange Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:58 p.m. Saturday for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, urinating in public and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Officers patrolling the fair grounds of the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival observed a man urinating within public view near the fairgrounds. An officer approached the subject, identified as Garrison and placed him under arrest. Upon arresting Garrison, he was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun which was unable to be identified due to obliterated serial numbers, Crouch said. Garrison was also found to be a convicted felon and presently on probation for a narcotics violation. He was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and remains in jail with a hold for probation authorities.

Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:

—A female juvenile, 13, was arrested at 10:14 p.m. Friday for simple battery.

Officers working the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival fairgrounds observed the juvenile commit a battery on another person inside the fairgrounds, Crouch said.

The juvenile was taken to the Morgan City Police Department where she was turned over to family pending court proceedings.

—Rolando Vargas, 28, of Spruce Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:35 p.m. Friday for theft by shoplifting-value $8.62, appearing intoxicated in public, resisting an officer and battery of a police officer

Officers received a complaint of a shoplifter at a convenience store located near Roderick Street in Morgan City. Officers were provided a description of the suspect. Officers located a person fitting the description provided near the intersection of Chennault and Roderick streets. A police officer detained Vargas and began to conduct an investigation. Vargas appeared intoxicated according to officers, Crouch said. Vargas attempted to leave the scene and struck the officer in the attempt, Crouch said.

The officer deployed a stun gun, was able to restrain Vargas, and arrested him, Crouch said. According to witnesses, Vargas had taken several bottles of beer from the store without paying. He was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and held.

—Talbert Tyron Landry, 24, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:36 p.m. Friday on a warrant for resisting an officer.

An officer located at the Tiger Stadium in Morgan City observed Landry, whom the officer was aware was a wanted person, Crouch said. Landry was detained by the officer and the warrant confirmed. Landry was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and held with bail set at $492.

—Leeroy E. Guillot, 33, of La. 70 in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:43 p.m. Friday on a warrant for driving while intoxicated.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Freret Street in regard to an intoxicated person. Officers arrived and located Guillot, who was found to be a wanted person from an arrest warrant for failure to pay a fine in a 2008 case, Crouch said. He was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and held.

—Arne’ L. Brewer, 47, of General Patton Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:26 a.m. Saturday on a warrant from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office for theft.

Officers were dispatched to a General Patton Street address in regard to locating Brewer for St. Martin Sheriff’s Department in regard on a warrant for theft. Officers located Brewer at the residence. She was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and released on $2,500 bail.

—Casey N. Eschete, 29, of Houma, was arrested at 11:48 a.m. Friday on a warrant for felony theft more than $500.

Detectives with the Morgan City Police Department with the assistance of a Terrebonne Parish deputy located Casey Eschete at her residence in Houma. She was on an outstanding warrant filed by Morgan City detectives alleging a theft of $2,000 from a residence in Morgan City in May. She was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex. She was then transferred to the Morgan City Police Department and released after posting $10,000 bail.

—Jenry Craft, 31, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:57 a.m. Friday for resisting an officer by giving false information, resisting an officer by flight, and criminal damage to property.

An officer patrolling the area of Franklin Street and Federal Avenue observed a male acting suspicious, Crouch said. The man was stopped, identified and provided officers with a name. He was checked out and released, Crouch said. The officer, upon becoming suspicious, again checked Craft’s identity and verified his identity, not as the name the man provided but as Craft, Crouch said.

The officer located him near Onstead Street and attempted to speak with Craft again. Craft, upon seeing the officer, fled on foot and was eventually captured by officers in the area, Crouch said. He was taken to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and is being held on $1,476 bail.

—Aretha Dee Forks, 40, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:08 p.m. Saturday for possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

—James Jackson, 35, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:42 p.m. Saturday for appearing intoxicated in public, criminal damage to property, simple battery, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers responded to a call of a disturbance at a local motel. Officers arrived and began to investigate a complaint stating that a male subject had struck another near the swimming pool and damaged a window. Officers located the man, identified as Jackson inside a room with a female, identified as Forks. Jackson was identified as the person who caused the disturbance and committed a battery. Jackson, who appeared intoxicated, was arrested by officers.

Officers observed items of drug paraphernalia scattered about the room and during the investigation, located suspected marijuana. Both were taken to the Morgan City Police Department where they both remain in jail.

—Deidra Marlena Edwards, 32, of Baton Rouge, was arrested at 12:34 p.m. Sunday for driving while intoxicated second offense, speeding 39 mph in a 25-mph zone, operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

An officer patrolling Terrebonne Street observed a vehicle. The officer was able to confirm the vehicle’s speed with radar at 39 mph in a 24-mph zone. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Edwards. She was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. She exhibited signs of intoxication and was provided a field sobriety test which she did poorly on, Crouch said. She was taken to the Morgan City Police Department where she submitted to an Intoxilyzer 5000 test registering .084 grams-percent blood alcohol content. Edwards was found to have been convicted of a previous DWI and was charged with second offense. She was taken to the Morgan City Jail.

—Rorr K. Beasley, 34, of Gray, was arrested at 12:13 a.m. Thursday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated third offense, improper lane usage, and ignition interlock device offense.

An officer patrolling the La. 182 area near Cottonwood Street observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. The officer stopped the vehicle and detained the driver, Beasley. The officer checked Beasley’s driver’s license and found it to be a restricted driver’s license, Crouch said.

Beasley could only operate a vehicle with an ignition interlock device. His vehicle was not equipped with the device, Crouch said. Beasley exhibited signs of impairment and was given a field sobriety test in which he failed, Crouch said. He was taken to the police department where he submitted to an Intoxilyzer 5000 test. Those results indicated .106 grams-percent blood alcohol content, he said. Beasley was found to have been convicted of two prior offenses. He was taken to jail with no bail set.

—Alyssa Ashmore, 23, of Chester Bowles in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:29 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for driving under suspension.

Officers investigating a disturbance in the Brownell Homes area came into contact with Ashmore. Officers discovered that Ashmore was wanted by the Morgan City police on an outstanding warrant. She was taken to the police department where she remains in jail on $500 bail.

—Dontrell Daniel Carter, 29, of First Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:19 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for the Thibodaux Police Department for contempt of court and on a warrant for Lafourche Parish for contempt of court.

Officers patrolling the La. 182 area near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard detained a vehicle in which Carter was a passenger.

Upon an officer checking through headquarters, it was discovered that Carter was wanted by two different agencies in Lafourche Parish for outstanding warrants. He was taken to the police department until he could be transferred to Lafourche Parish authorities.

—James Kendell Brown, 20, of Duke Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:26 p.m. Wednesday for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Officers were dispatched to a residence located on Duke Street in regards to locating a wanted person. As officers approached, they saw several subjects sitting inside a vehicle parked at a Duke Street residence. As officers approached, the subjects attempted to run. Two of the people were apprehended and found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and paraphernalia, Crouch said.

Brown was found to be in the company of a male juvenile who was also apprehended.

Both Brown and the juvenile were taken to the police department and held. Brown remains in jail. The juvenile was released to family pending court proceedings.

—Jeffrey Baline Lodrigue, 22, of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 4:03 a.m. today for possession of marijuana second offense, drug paraphernalia, and on a hold for the St. Mary Sheriff’s Office for possession of marijuana.

Officers were dispatched to Solar Apartments in reference to locating a person on an outstanding warrant for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Officers located Lodrigue and also found suspected marijuana and paraphernalia in his possession. He was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department and held.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:

—Damien Hale, 23, of Cedar Street in Franklin, was arrested at 2:39 a.m. Friday for theft by shoplifting and is still being held.

—Ja’Michael Bowie, 23, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8 a.m. Friday on a warrant for theft by shoplifting. Bowie was transferred to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

—Donovan Mabile, 29, of Roy Street in Plattenville, was arrested at 9:51 a.m. Friday for driving under suspension. Mabile was released on $1,000 bail.

—Ricky Mire, 33, of Morgan City, was arrested at 10:54 p.m. Friday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, careless operation of a motor vehicle, driving under suspension, and no proof of insurance. Mire was released on $4,000 bail.

—James Schillinger, 49, of Bellview Front Street in Berwick, was arrested at 12:10 p.m. Sunday for criminal trespass. Schillinger is being held on $500 bail.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:

—Donvin Mingo, 37, of the 100 block of 11th Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4 p.m. Thursday on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of possession of schedule I drugs, abuse of toxic vapors, possession of drug paraphernalia, and issuing worthless checks. A deputy made contact with Mingo during a traffic stop in Bayou Vista and conducted a warrants check. Mingo was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.

—Robert Gaudet, 51, of the 100 block of Willie Mae Lane in Lafayette, was arrested at 2:57 p.m. Thursday for possession of a schedule II drug (Roxycodone). A deputy responded to a report of a reckless driver on U.S. 90 in the Bayou Vista area. Using a description provided by the complainant, including the license plate number, the deputy located the vehicle on the side of the road. The driver of the truck had pulled over and stopped. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Gaudet. While speaking with Gaudet, the deputy watched him swaying from side to side. The deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located seven Roxycodone pills in a glove compartment. Gaudet was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.

—Charmaine M. Hebert, 27, of Harding Drive in Houma, was arrested at 5:10 p.m. Thursday on two warrants for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana, illegal possession of stolen things, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, misrepresentation during booking, and operating a vehicle without a driver’s license. She was also charged on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. Hebert was taken from the Terrebonne Parish Jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrants. No bail is set.
