Sheriff: Ignoring skate park ban leads to boy’s arrest

A male juvenile was arrested Wednesday after repeatedly violating a ban from the Bayou Vista skate park, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—A juvenile male, 16, of Bayou Vista, was arrested at 3:23 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of remaining where forbidden. A deputy responded to a complaint of a juvenile subject entering the Bayou Vista skate park after being banned from the facility.
The deputy observed the juvenile on video surveillance entering the park, which is currently closed for construction. The deputy also learned that the juvenile was repeatedly told that he was banned from entering the park because of prior violations. The deputy located the juvenile on Saturn Road.
Following the investigation, the juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints and reported the following arrests:
—Gerald Crooks, 54, of the 300 block of Degravelle Road in Amelia, was arrested at 2:29 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, second offense.
A deputy investigating a complaint of illegal drug activity stopped Crooks, who was driving on Duhon Boulevard in Amelia.
After speaking with Crooks, the deputy requested the assistance of the Morgan City Police Department K-9 Unit. The K-9 officer indicated an odor response on the vehicle and the deputy located a socket containing burnt residue and a ball of copper wool.
The makeshift pipe and metal wool are both items that are commonly used in the consumption of crack cocaine. Crooks had a prior conviction for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The deputy transported Crooks to the parish jail for booking. No bail was set.
—Craig P. Blanc, 37, of the 3900 block of Captain Cade Road in Youngsville, was arrested at 11:53 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of disturbing the peace (intoxicated), resisting an officer, possession of Schedule II (Adderall), and entering contraband into a penal institution.
—Desirae Yarborough, 34, of the 1500 block of Cross Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:53 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of disturbing the peace (intoxicated) and resisting an officer.
A deputy conducting a business building security check on the corner of Southeast Boulevard and La. 182 in Bayou Vista observed a male and female subject engaged in an argument near the shoulder of the highway.
After the deputy made contact, the male subject began to walk away from the area. The deputy detained the subject, identified as Blanc, pending further investigation. The female subject, identified as Yarborough, then attempted to grab items from Blanc’s pocket. She was also detained.
During the investigation, the two subjects continued yelling and screaming, causing a disturbance. The deputy observed that both Blanc and Yarborough had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on their persons.
During their arrest, Blanc and Yarborough attempted to forcibly pull away from the deputy.
Both subjects were transported to the parish jail. During booking, a jailer located Adderall pills in Blanc’s pocket. Bail was set for Yarborough at $1,250. No bail was set for Blanc.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Amy E. Grow, 33, of Orange Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:01 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for second degree battery.
Grow was located on Orange Street and placed under arrest for an active warrant she held for the Morgan City Police Department. The warrant stems from an incident in February, which alleges that Grow committed a battery on an individual.
The victim later required medical attention. Grow was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and jailed.
—Scarlett Burkart, 33, of Schriever, was arrested at 1:58 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear. Burkart was already incarcerated in the Morgan City Jail when a warrant was discovered for the Sixth Ward City Court.
Burkart was booked and continues to be jailed.
—Tommy D. Donati, 33, of Carter Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 11:27 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of driving under suspension. A patrol officer in the area of Brashear Avenue and La. 182 observed a vehicle traveling without any headlights on. The vehicle was stopped to investigate.
The driver, Donati, was asked to produce a valid driver’s license. A computer check determined that Donati’s driver’s license was under suspension. Donati was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
