Sheriff: Intoxicated driver was 4 times over limit

A 49-year-old Morgan City man was charged with DWI Sunday after registering more than four times the legal blood-alcohol concentration, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Antonio D. Pickett, 49, of the 1400 block of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:10 p.m. Sunday on the charges of driving while intoxicated, careless operation with a crash, and no driver’s license. A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle crash on U.S. 90 in Ricohoc.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Pickett, and smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, Hebert said.
Pickett ran his vehicle off the roadway and into a ditch, Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry said. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Landry said.
Pickett later registered 0.365 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on the breath test. Due to his high level of intoxication, Pickett was transported to the hospital, Hebert said. Following his release, Pickett was booked into the parish jail with no bail set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 159 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Elvin Jordan Menjivar, 32, of the 1200 block of Front Street in Morgan City, at 1:31 a.m. Thursday for reckless operation of a vehicle, no insurance, and no driver’s license.
A deputy observed a vehicle traveling 94 mph in a 70 mph zone on U.S. 90 in the Amelia area and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, Menjivar, and learned that he was operating the vehicle without a driver’s license or insurance. Menjivar was booked and released on a summons to appear in court March 7.
—Jaymie L. Brownlee, 30, of the 1000 block of Michael Street in Patterson, at 6:56 a.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear in the charge of criminal neglect of family.
During a traffic stop conducted on U.S. 90 in the Berwick area, a deputy made contact with Brownlee and located the active warrant for his arrest. Brownlee was booked and released after paying the $2,348 fine.
—Hamilton Banks, 28, of the 900 block of Everett Street in Morgan City, at 7:05 p.m. Friday on the charges of violation of the parish loud noise ordinance and expired driver’s license.
A deputy traveling on La. 182 in Morgan City heard extremely loud music emanating from a vehicle, Hebert said. The music also drew the attention of several people in a nearby parking lot. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Banks. While speaking with Banks, the deputy learned that his driver’s license was expired. The deputy released Banks on a summons to appear in court March 30.
—Devin P. Guillot, 29, of the 500 block of Bayou Drive in Pierre Part, at 2:05 p.m. Saturday on the charge of theft of goods.
A deputy investigating a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista learned from store personnel that Guillot placed tags of lower priced items on merchandise and attempted to check out with the falsely priced goods. Guillot was booked and later released on $1,000 bail.
—A juvenile female, 14, of Berwick, at 11:24 p.m. Saturday on the charge of being an ungovernable juvenile.
A deputy investigating a report of a runaway juvenile located the teenager at another home in Berwick. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Lissie Bernard, 26, of the 1000 block of Harrison Street in New Iberia, at 11:39 p.m. Saturday on the charges of failure to signal a lane change, no driver’s license, no motor vehicle insurance, expired inspection sticker, switched license plate and canceled license plate.
A deputy observed a vehicle fail to signal a lane change on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Bernard, and discovered multiple violations including a switched license plate. Bernard was booked and later released on a summons to appear in court March 30.
—Phillip J. Dehart, 31, of the 4200 block of Francis Street in Berwick, at 7:57 p.m. Sunday on the charge of driving under suspension.
A deputy conducting a traffic stop on U.S. 90 in the Siracusa area made contact with the driver, identified as Dehart, and learned that he was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. The deputy released Dehart on a summons to appear in court March 30.
—Charles Cantrell, 45, of the 100 block of Two Sisters Court in Bayou Vista, at 8:22 p.m. Sunday on a Morgan City Police Department warrant for failure to appear on traffic violations and on a 16th Judicial District bench warrant for failure to appear on the charge of stalking.
A deputy located Cantrell at his home on the warrants and transported him to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Quidell L. Mitchel, 35, of the 200 block of Jones Street in Berwick, at 7:33 p.m. Friday on the charge of theft over $500 (cell phone). Mitchel was jailed on $1,000 bail.
—Temika Brister, 39, of the 400 block of Whispering Drive in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, at 11 p.m. Friday on the charge of domestic violence-simple battery. Brister was released on $1,000 bail.
—Casey Lopez, 34, of the 1700 block of Kemper Street in Patterson, at 7:33 p.m. Friday on the charges of two counts of theft by shoplifting. Lopez was released on $1,000 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
