Sheriff: Man booked on crack cocaine charge

A 39-year-old Franklin man was charged with in-tending to distribute crack cocaine Wednesday after St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives stopped a vehicle they saw drive onto the shoulder of a road in Verdunville, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Derrick G. Lovely, 39, of Bud Street in Franklin, was arrested at 4:06 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of Xanax, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lane use, no driver’s license and condition of windshield.
Narcotics detectives patrolling the Verdunville area observed a vehicle, with a large crack across the windshield, drive onto the shoulder of the roadway while traveling behind another vehicle. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, identified as Lovely.
Detectives smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. While speaking with Lovely, he admitted that he had marijuana in the center console of the vehicle.
Following his arrest, detectives conducting a search of Lovely located Xanax pills and a slab of crack cocaine in his pocket. Detectives also found that Lovely was operating the vehicle without a driver’s license. He was booked into parish jail and released after posting $5,500 bail.
Hebert reported responding to 45 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Brandon L. Guidry, 31, of Natalie Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 10:56 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of issuing worthless checks. Deputies investigating a complaint in Patterson made contact with Guidry and located the active warrant for his arrest. Guidry was booked into parish jail and later released on $1,500 personal surety bail.
—Kylee Wilson, 19, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:31 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of restricted license and no insurance. A deputy responded to a single vehicle crash on La. 182 and Palmer Lane in Franklin and made contact with the driver, Wilson.
During the investigation, the deputy found that Wilson was violating a restriction listed on her driver’s license and that she was operating the vehicle without insurance. Wilson was released on a summons to appear in court Sept. 15.
—Thomas R. Cook, 32, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging him with possession of drug paraphernalia and false representation of a controlled dangerous sub-stance.
Narcotics detectives located Cook at his home on the warrant. The warrant was obtained following an investigation into possible illegal drug activity during an encounter with Cook in March. A detective located what was being portrayed by Cook as methamphetamine, Hebert said. Detectives identified the substance as rock salt that was crushed up to look like methamphetamine. Detectives also located a glass pipe on Cook, the sheriff said. Cook was booked into parish jail with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Stephen Cortez, 50, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle, improper lane usage and DWI.
An officer saw a vehicle on the La. 182 bridge driving out of its lane of travel in a reckless manner, nearly striking the side of the bridge several times, Blair said. The officer stopped the vehicle and the driver, Cortez, appeared to be intoxicated, Blair said.
Cortez submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000 test, yielding a blood alcohol concentration of 0.22 grams-percent. He was jailed.
—Mark Hash, 41, of Tam-my Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:52 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of domestic abuse battery.
Officers responded to a home on Tammy Drive in regard to a call of a domestic disturbance. Police spoke with several subjects inside the home, one later identified as the victim of a battery, and the other as Hash.
Police were told that the victim and Hash were involved in an argument when Hash allegedly committed a battery on the victim. During an investigation, officers discovered evidence of the alleged battery. Hash was jailed.
—Joshua A. Falgout, 36, of Sycamore Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:06 a.m. today on the charge of possession of marijuana.
Officers responded to a convenience store on La. 182 in regard to a report of an intoxicated person. Police located Falgout, who matched the description provided, at his vehicle in the parking lot. Falgout’s behavior made officers suspicious that he may be involved in illegal drug activity, Blair said.
Police searched the vehicle and located suspected marijuana. Falgout was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Jessica Olds, 40, of Taft Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:52 a.m. Wednesday on the charges of disturbing the peace intoxicated, simple battery involving domestic violence and aiding and abetting others to enter or remain in Patterson jail. No bail is set yet.
—Rocky Sauce, 60, of Bayou Black Drive in Gibson, was arrested at 11:06 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of remaining where forbidden. Sauce was transported to the parish jail with no bail set yet.
—Calvin Griffin, 40, of Park Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:38 a.m. Wednesday on the charges of disturbing the peace intoxicated, simple criminal damage to property and simple assault. Griffin was jailed with bail set at $829.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
